My Solara has been driving me nuts

My Solara has been driving me nuts

Postby Coconut » Fri Sep 17, 2004 3:18 pm

Howdy,

My car stopped today and would not start. This is the 4th time within 2 years. It will only start for a few seconds when I unplug the battery cable, then plug it back in. When it stops, the oil light and left rear flasher light remain on. The car has 85K miles and it's a V6. The technician has told me that it may require a computer chip/part change, which cost over US $900 at the dealer. Has anyone experienced this problem before?

Appreciate your input.

the same thing happened to me. My car wouldn't start. So i cleaned up the batter terminals and used some protective stuff to spray on it. THEn I screwed it up really tightly. And voila, it's been working till now. I dont know if that will fix ur problem, but yea.

Do you guys have good batteries? Or just cheap ones that work? I had a problem with my battery holding a charge when I bought the car from a Nissan dealer. Battery died within a week, bastards. Bumper to bumper warrantee my a$$. Anyways, I swapped it with an Optima Yellowtop Gel battery, added a couple more ground wires to various places, and never a problem again. Spent a good $200 on that battery too. And if it's not the battery, then it's the starter. Those are just about the only 2 factors to get the engine to turn over.

the engine will still turn over with bad injectors though... if it's not turning over at all then it's either electrical or the starter. Bad grounds can cause strange problems... make sure the ground strap has good clean metal contact.

However it does sound like the computer is disabling your ignition for some reason... could be a computer glitch like the tech said...

GOOD LUCK!

try cleaning ur battery terminals because many times carbon builds up...i know this has happened a few times on my daily driver, not my solara.... but it was resolved by cleaning my terminals.

it's safer to disconnect the negative. I've had this starting problem before, i just installed a new starter and it was fine.
