Green Interior Lighting

Green Interior Lighting

Postby artnyc » Thu Oct 31, 2002 12:44 pm

Hey all, new to the board. Just discovered the site. I recently bought a 99 SLE V6 Solara. And I totally love the car. the only thing I really dislike is the green lighting. (radio, controls, buttons, etc) I was curious is there anyway to change this? Might be a stupid question, but then again maybe some of you folks feel the same.

It think you can change the bulb to different color.

For sure the Dash Cluster has five 194 bulbs w/ green rubber enclosed,
so all you need to do is replace those bulbs w/ color of your choice.

would the whole dash board have to be taken off to complete a task like this? and is this something that you would consider a difficult task?

Yes you need to take the whole dash cluster out.

It should not that difficult, just took some screws and prey out.
On the back of the dash cluster,
there are bunch of bulbs that you can take out.

I heard that someone put blue bulbs throughout his whole dash! It looked nice! I'll post a link to pictures if I find it again!

I wonder if it's easier than it sounds hehehe... if so, I wouldn't mind a day of bulb replacing!
1GR-FE ftw!

my friend's car has red lights in it...that looks hot at night.

you know what looks wicked awesome too is green dome lights! i wouldn't want the green, cause it's too guyish..but it's like a pimp mobile w/ em! i wouldn't mind maybe a purple interior dome or a pink or red one..that would be niiiiccccee. has anyone seen a car w/ this? i thought it would be stupid..but it's so different. it sets this "atmosphere" in the car..like yur i a club or something. i think it only looks good tho if the windows are tinted.

hahaah..i agree w/ all of that but "a grinder" ...i think some places might use this..but it's pratically foreign to me..i know what it means, but most places use the word "sub". some places will put the word grinder on their menus, but if you ask a person what they're eating, they'd say a sub.\

hahah..bubblah..i hate the word!! my mother always used that...i always say water fountain..bubblahhh...yuck..haha.

you know what bothers me the most!! grrr!! in the south...if they don't understand what you said to them, instead of saying "exuse me" like they would in the north, they say "do what now??"...ahhh!! i can't take it!!
how the hell does "do what now" ask someone to repeat something. i cringe in work everytime a cust w/ a deep southern accents says "do what now"

It should be easy,
I saw my friends did it on Solara, Civic and Eclipse.

It take 5 minutes to open the dash,
another 5 to replace the bulb and
another 5 to put it back.

The main thing is, the bulb are expensive. :(
$5 per bulb for 5 bulbs = $25 = new Indiglo.

ehhe, a friend of mine says that and it bothers me and I'm from the south!

It's kind of said with some harshness and some arrogance. I think it's more the tone than the words itself.

Do WHHAAT NOW?

Anyway, I think replacing the bulbs with blue would be wicked! Wonder if you can replace them with some ultra bright LEDs.

I might consider a blue or green dome lights.. hmmm...

I got my new Philips bulbs in yesterday but the weather has been bad lately... (STILL)

lol..there's something about it that's just so awesome..i can't figure out what it is. i think it's just cause it sets like a tone or a mood in the car..like "atmosphere"..lol, i know i'm crazy.

heheh..well i guess if all of the solaraguys start getting colored dome lights i can take credit for setting a trend!!

and you (flip!!) said that the california is the major trend setter!
