Front engine radiator drain plug

Front engine radiator drain plug

Postby SleeperSolara » Mon Sep 20, 2004 11:33 am

Ok, a few days ago i drained my old radiator fluid, and flushed the system.
I have a V6, wit 2 engine draing plug, and one for the radiator itself.
I lossened the front one to take some of the fluid out of the front of the block, and tighten the plug as hard as i could and filled the car up full wit 1 gal of Toyota dealer raditor fluid, wit a gal of distilled water.
Also changed the thermostat.
Now the front drain plug is leaking. I think it is leaking when i drive.
Just yesterday i tightened it as much as i could, and it is still leaking.
What could it be; could it be the o-ring for the plug.

coolant leaks so easy! You probably could fix it with some RTV silicone on the plug.

Front engine radiator drain plug

Postby SleeperSolara » Mon Sep 20, 2004 3:08 pm

Ok, just finished 2 trips, and no leaking from the plug.
I hope it stops.
Now some coolant comes out of the reservior.
Is that normal for any of you guys??
My 98 Camry doesn't have collant come out of the reservior.
Wonderin' if that is normal for coolant to leak from the top of the reservior. :-?

I was going to ask this tonight...but someone already beat me to it.
Anyone know of how to stop the resevoir from leaking out of the top? Or is this a cronic issue?

Sorry about beaten you[el guapo] to the thread. But i wanted feedback ASAP from the leakin' of the front drain plug.
What should i do about it.
The dealership said about 60-70 somethini' bucks for the new plug, and drainin' the car and fillin' it up.
Their is an o-ring for the small plug, which is a 10mm bolt.
Not sure what the size is for the o-ring.
