Hi don't hang me, but I do not have a Solara. I have a 91 MR2. I am putting a 1MZ-FE into my 2. I am looking for aftermarket parts for the motor. I have found headers by JP and that is about it. I am really looking for a good set of camshafts. Once the motor is in the car I am putting on the TRD superchargers also. Any help hints that you can give a fellow Toyota owner would be welcom. Thanks. Kobi.

As TRDcamry said it does fit in the car with no trouble. The only thing that has to be really moded are the engine mounts. And they are not that much trouble. But working on the engine once it is in the car will be a little tighter than what I have seen in a Solara so I want to put cams and all the other good stuff in before I put it in the car. - Kobi [/img]

oh snaps.. Vegas up in it.. Hey man where you at?.. heh but to the real topic at hand...

I think your best bet is to get a hold of those Turbo issues and beef up.. Unless of course you already have them :)

some people do the turbo 3sgte for what evers... speed, power

some other people do the 1mz swap just simply b/c it is more rare and you get more recognition for it.

:)

kudos to vegas!

There was an article on that swap in one of the compact car mags in the last year, it may have been SCC but I'm not sure. It had some decent info on cooling, mounting and exhaust set-up.

I have read the mags. didn't really see much as for engine parts. they put in pistons and rods. But I don't recall anything on cams. Putting it in that car should be no huge problem. I have looked at the way that others have done it. And I think that I have just about decided how I want everything done. Thanks for all the replys so fast. Kobi

First, power to you for wanting to do the swap...I'm saving up to hopefully do it in the future. Cams, as far as I know, are going to produce no gains unless you can dyno tune them, and really aren't that much of an increase. As mentioned, Turbo magazine had a great buildup, and I have the issue where they beefed up the internals with the rods and pistons, and that's a good bet for power, but you have to watch out for the various side effects, such as loss of the oil squirters on the top of the pistons to keep everything lubed up. Good luck, and keep us updated on how the engine goes.

Just drop in the 3S-GTE...

Why bother with an econo FE block when you can achieve the same HP and cheaper price with the 3S-GTE?

If you want to be unique, you certainly are not the first nor last one to do that swap. IMO it's a waste of money.

I know that I am not the first nor will I be the last. But why do people run a marathon whe they could get there faster by driving? Because it is the harder road to go. Just to say that they have. i want to do this because I know a lot of people that have done the 3S-GTE swap. And belive me I get s#1T here too about waisting time, money, effort. I have never met some one that has a V6 MR2. I know that they are out there but a lot less of them. To me a 3S-GTE swap is common place. I know that you can get power out of it. A friend of mine is getting just over 400WHP. I just want to do it for my own personal pride. Just to say that I did it. I guess this is one of those things that if it has to be explained then you won't understand. By the way can I see some pics of your guy's Solaras. i like that car just can't pay for one. I would love to have a V6. 5 speed. Kobi.

If you're that serious about building the 1MZ-FE I can point you in the right direction. Send me a PM. Good Luck. 8)
