Ratting In Right Rear Of Car

Ratting In Right Rear Of Car

Postby Duffman » Fri Sep 17, 2004 3:31 pm

Hi all, I've got a 2002 Solara, SE V6, 5-Speed... and I've got a rattling sound in the back of my car, on the right. I've taken off the panel in the back seat, checked the trunk thinking it was my jack... I can't find anything that's making a rattling sound. I was thinking (gasp!) that it was my shocks, maybe the tower is loose (hope not!). Any suggestions?

Have you replaced anything suspension-wise, like your struts or sway bar? When does the noise appear (rough pavement or turning)? Could be the strut.

It does appear on bumps... and no, I haven't replaced anything in there which is what weirds me out.

I just pulled the rear deck, took a look around... nothing I can find is loose. I guess my next stop is the Toyota dealer...

Stock springs, stock struts, everything is as Toyota made it.

It's under warranty still so it has a doctor's appointment Monday... BTW, the mechanics were like "Holy sh*t!" when they saw it was a 2002 V6 5-Speed, as were a couple salesmen at the dealership. w00t for 2002 SE V6 Manuals. ;)

suspension

Postby sloara » Tue Sep 28, 2004 5:33 pm

I have that same problem. The noise is coming from my end-links. They should not move at all and if they do, you'll here a rattle.

The Toyota dealer didn't have the struts in stock, so I take it back next Monday. They ordered a new strut tower and the top mount for it, not sure what the exact problem was but will ask. I wasn't allowed "in" with the car when they were working on it, but I was able to be by the entrance, growling because all the Toyota mechanics were standing around drooling at the 5-speed. Whoever has the "Quit humping my car; owner privelage!" siggy is right on the money. :P

Duffman,

What ever happened with this? I'm having the exact same rattle, but mine's lowered on Tein/Tokico setup.

Thanks
Steve
