Is Red Lighted Dash Spedometer Possible?

Is Red Lighted Dash Spedometer Possible?

Postby DatSRBoi » Thu Sep 30, 2004 8:19 pm

I was in my friends brother in law Audi TT quatro today and I have to say for a factory car is is PIMP. I also notice how his dash gauges were red. I searched around this site but couldnt really find anything about changing the colors on the dash other then changing the face itself but thats blue and all. I want the factory dash but the numbers to glow red at night. Does anyone have instructions how to make it happen and Or is it even possible? it looks better then the Green light dash speedometer i have. SO HELP HELP..

yes its possible.

you need to buy peanut wedge bulbs.

i forgot what size, but its the same as the license plate light.

just pop out the gauge cluster and then you have acess to the rear.

The whole gauge cluster is 194's. I used red colored bulbs.

Holla bread. The key ring is also 194. HVAC controls are 2921. Looks really good. You have to make new covers for the turn signals...i used transparency paper that I colored red and filled in the holes where it was a piece of green plastic.

WOW!! :o AWESOME!! looks proffessional and all. so the bulbs are 194? Thanks a bunch bro. Only I wish you lived in Texas to help me out haha. I love the way the red Dash makes it look all luxury and powerful looking. Darn Audis and Luxus has them. Ill show you guys the pics later. It looks just as good as yours man. PROPS.

You can change all of those flash. The rear defrost is easiest, there are two small screw out bulbs on the top of the button cartridge (which pops out of the hvac controls when you have everything disassembled). The a/c is harder because you cant change the LED that lights up when air conditioning is on. You can however unscrew a tiny bulb and color that in which will make the A/C label light up (i reccommend candy colored nail polish). The recirculate button (if you have a button and not the lever) is nearly impossible since it is 100% LED.

The PRNDL2 on your dash is simply a series of #74 bulbs. You will have to remove the cluster again because you can only access them from the back. I colored em all in with red nail polish, then replaced the "D" bulb with a blue #74.

Here is a pic of my blue on red interior.

Yo thanks for the info bassthrive! I was very leary (sp?) of taking apart my speedo, so when I get bored and feel confident again I will probably do the PRND21 later! Thanks so much dude.

On the bezel, there are two screws at the top of it, they are somewhat angled. You gotta use alotta force and maybe some WD40 to get them out. from there its pretty simple...the bezel comes off, the speedometer has like 4 screws holding IT in, take them off and there ya have it, the back of the speedo.
