suspension time, to the point

suspension time, to the point

I am getting ready to do my suspension on my 99 solara se, (5 spd too :) Anyway I have gone through at least 50 posts on suspension but none of them really get to the point. Here are my questions.

1. I want to maintain "as much" ride quality as I can but I really want better handeling. Out of the Tein, eibach or vogt lands I am led to beleive that teins are the best choice. My strut choice is tokico since that seems to be the pick of the liter.
2. More than anything I hate I mean HATE how my car sits high in the front and low in the back, which spring has the most uneven drop to compensate for that.
3. Do I or Do I not need a camber kit, or should I say do you recomend it. is there a limit to how far you can drop before going to a camber kit.
4.My last and most important question. I have this very annoying ratteling/knocking noise coming from every wheel and I have come to the conclusion that its the strut mounts. For those who have done it, is it just the one peice on top that needs replaced or should I get anything else and most important, I have heard that KYB makes mounts for our cars, are they recomended over the OEM version or are there any other options and where can I buy KYB or any other.
Very sorry so long, I really want to get this underway I have been saving 4EVER and I want toi do it right, myself. Thanks all

sounds like Tein/Tokico is what you want for an even drop front to rear. Can't speak for the strut mounts, guess I'd shop for price. Rears are a pain 'cause the interior/rear seat has to be removed.

The only bad thing for me about lowered ride height is in the winter when there is a lot of snow and crud. There was so much frozen ice/snow in the rear wheel wells the tires kept bottoming out. I finally had to run a space heater in the garage to melt it off.

Eibachs are well-known for maintaining ride quality. They feel great on my car.
Here's a link for info and pics of my 1999 Camry:

Eibachs feel as good as the Teins do... I never really noticed a difference between those 2 springs (both on Tokico struts)

Get coilovers :D The teins are still pretty damn soft with great handling. The JIC... are pure racing... it feels like arse x_X

You can go about it two ways, go with Eibach/Tokico for ride quality or go with Tiens/Tokico for a even drop...it depends whats more important to you.

i know what you mean about the uneven front and back.. kind of annoys me when i look at it. but the sad truth is that none of the three springs you mentioned (which are the only good springs for our cars) compensate for the uneven front and rear. they only vary a maximum of .1 inch front and rear. so if you want the perfect balance of front and rear, you have to go with one the very expensive coilover kits. (JIC or tein)

Actually, the Teins are listed as a 1.7" drop in front and 1.4" drop in rear. On my car, it made a big difference.

Sounds like your in for more on the Tein/Tokico Drop since you want the even drop. if you like, here is a picture of my car on teins/tokico and 19's
Not only that i have a full system installed on my trunk that weights about 200 lbs.

as far as ride quality, I have had this set-up for a litle over a yr and its been great. I have also added the TRD RSB and TRD front strut bar to give it a little more tweak and stiffness. Ride a little like stock but without the large amount of body roll.

As far as your strut mount. Since you will be working in that area check them to see if they have gone bad. If so just replace them while you have them out. its alot easier to do it now then later down the road.

Thanks guys for all the feedback, I probably gonna go tiens, I like the eibachs rep for riding good, but I mean how bad can the tiens really be, as long as they maintain a good feel on the highway thats fine but the level drop is more what I want. I am almost positive I need mounts ill just have to find them, I found kyb's I was just curious as to how good they were and where to get em. Thanks, the pics are great

It is knocking really bad up front, what do I do to check them, and which part is it that I have to replace, just the donut or the shock hat too or what. And last I cant tell if its doing it in the back or not, is there a mount back there that would rattle andgo baad or is this just a front thing. Thanks

I just had it done, so I'm thinking it's going to settle in more. Looked a little high to me too. The tires are 225/45-18, but I had a problem with the tires so I'm changing to 40's.

40s will give you more of a gap than w/ 45s
