Steering shakes once in a while

Postby SleeperSolara » Thu Oct 07, 2004 3:18 pm

everytime i brake or slow the car down everyonce in a while the steering wheel shakes side-to-side not a alot though, just slightly.
I never have hit a curb since i got the car.
Got new brake pads, and everthing, bled the brake system already.
And when we bought the car the guy got it aligned for us.

I bet its warped rotors. If you wanna get rid of it, you can either resurface them, or get new rotors altogether.

Unless "new brake pads and everything" means new rotors too...

I agree. Every car I've ever had behave like that, it was warped rotors (probably from hard braking at speed--too much heat=warping). New rotors are pretty cheap and easy to replace on these cars. Try just the front first because they take the most stress and are the most likely to warp. Mine's doing it a little now, but I'm waiting 'til the brakes are more worn to do the job cuz it's not too pronounced or annoying yet. Already got the parts.

I think the rims are balanced, not sure.
It only happens oncein a while though.
Might get the car checked sometime.
It might be the rotors.

If the front end is out of alignment, that could do it as well. I had that problem with my 91 Camry.
