Want to install traction control

Want to install traction control

Postby sackings2003 » Thu Oct 07, 2004 2:34 am

I think nobody asked this question before. I have a 99 SLE without traction control installed. If I want to have this option right now, can I bring my car to Toyota dealer and install it?? Plus, do you guys know how much will it cost?? :-?

(I want to install the traction control because my car always skid when I'm making a quick corner. I'm sure my tires aren't wear out and I have the RSB installed.) :-?

I'm sure it will cost way more than it's worth. Traction control won't keep you from skidding in a corner.

 traction control isn't for turning.. You need to slow down when taking corners.

I have a manual now.. and I have the traction control.. and its worthless... just makes the car slow itself down.. its more for slick conditions in snow... so you don't just spin your tires.. not racing

The first thing I do when I start my car is reach over and turn OFF the traction control. All it does is stop you from spinning wheels, like SC V6 said. There's nothing more annoying (or scary) than when you want to stomp it to get into traffic or whatever, knowing that you'll probably spin a little, and having the car take control away from you the instant a tire breaks traction--cutting the throttle and leaving you accelerating like grandma in a Buick with traffic bearing down on you. I LIKE spinning tires. I HATE traction control.

I do the same thing as you greenhornet, If I don't see "TRAC OFF" in my dash then i feel like somethigns wrong, lol. Only time I leave it on is snow or REDICULOUS rain, everywhere else and its too dangerous when merging.

Another example of a bad situation: Making a U turn, you have the space to make it inbetween cars but you gun it and Traction Control kills your speed, you end up putting out into the intersection going 1-5mph... bam?

I wonder if there has ever been an accident due to Traction Control, I hope not that would suck!

Isnt that part of the traction control... Vehicle Stability Control?? The only thing I have felt is the reduced speed with the TRAC ON, on corners... There is no on/off button for VSC..

yeah,I know. I'm wondering if I can have the both the VSC and traction control installed in my Gen1 at this time. coz I know it's an option in Gen2. Any ideas?? :-?

In theory, you can have a .50 cal machine gun installed on your Solara. The dollar's the limit... if you've got the dough, someone can make it happen.

Let me know if you can get that .50 cal!

Sackings2003, how come you want these things? They won't help you in racing, because they defeat performance to keep you on the road.

My wife has VSC on her Highlander V6 4WD Limited. I hate that too. I'm used to having fun in the snow, and VSC prevents that. And you can't turn it off. It doesn't know that you're TRYING to slide, so it takes over and keeps the car going on track under low to mid-speed conditions where there's not enough inertia to make it useless. It's probably good for my wife, though, but she did say to me once that she tried to "fishtail" in the snow on purpose around a corner and the car wouldn't let her.

I'm not gonna race actually. :) I don't want to go off the line when I'm making a quick corner. You can say I can slow down when I'm corning, but you know sometimes I "need"or I am "force" to make a quick corner. :) I always lose the control especially I'm making a turn on a rail track.

What's a rail track? (I'm ignorant about such things. :o ) If you're losing control on dry pavement, then you are simply going faster than the car can handle. VSC and Traction Control can't change that.
