Light warning!

Light warning!

Postby greeensolara » Wed Oct 20, 2004 9:37 pm

for some reason the light warning keeps on coming on, i took the bulb out of the middle brake light because my spoiler has a l.e.d light on it. and it looks pretty gay with all four lights. anyway, the warning light on the cluster came on. so i put the bulb back in, and disconnected the battery to restart the ecu. but the light still came on. so i looked at the spoiler light hook up and all wut it is, is an extension from the right brake light. does anyone have an idea if its from the extension. because i know its not from the middle brake light in the windsheild. thnx guys!

P.S. i tried the search botton to see if this problem happened b4, but couldn't find a solution.

First thing, you don't need to reset the ecu for this problem. So you don't have to redo your radio settings. Just check every single one of your exterior lights. I have found that the light indicator only turns on when the blown out light is trying to be used, i.e. if the reverse light is blown, then the indicator light would only turn on when you're in reverse. The car wouldn't know a light is burned out if it isn't trying to light it up. If that windshield brake light works, then a different light is out. Let us know what you find.

If you install take out any of your factory bulbs, includin the 3rd brake light, the warning light will come on. The only way to get this off is to rewire the aftermarket spoiler to the 3rd brake light (alot more of a pain than to a side brake light) and install some kind of resistor to make the load simulate the regular 3rd brake light bulb. The only OTHER way to get rid of this is to take out the bulb for the rear light failure light.

Have a friend press on the brakes on and off while your parking lights are on and hazards are on to check all your rear bulbs to make sure nothing else blew out in the meanwhile. If the Ebrakes on, you can also throw it in reverse for good measure. That should light up every rear bulb in every state.

You have my spoiler so I went through the same thing. The LED in the spoiler doesn't provide enough power to register that it is working, so the car thinks the light is blown out. You need to keep the bulb plugged in on the thrid brake light so that the car registers the correct wattage. Your other option is to just drive around with the warning light on. Just tint your rear window and you'll be fine since you cant see the thrid brake light...that's what i did.
