Cat-Back Exhaust for '00 I4

Hey guys,

I'm the proud owner of a 2000 I4 Solara, (well... it's gold. So not THAT proud) and I've been looking into the usual first steps to modding it out. I already put a nice set of 17's with some good rubber on them, and I figure the next step would be upgrading the intake and exhaust. The CIA doesn't look like much problem, and neither does the exhaust... assuming I can find a kit that will fit. I was looking around and all the exhaust packages I can find say they are made to fit V6's, no mention of the I4. Is there any difference between the fittings on and after the catlytic converter in the V6 and I4, or am I going to have to shell out the extra bucks and go the custom road on this one?

but the piping for the v6 and i4 are the same so the Apexi WS and WS2, Greddy EVO and EVO2, as well as the TRD muffler will all bolt on without a prob...or you could go custom and get bigger diameter piping and a muffler to fit your tastes for around half the price of the name-brand catbacks.

with the I4, you'd have to plug up the hole using a bolt/screw where the O2 sensor goes from the V6.... other than that, youre good

Sorry about that. I dug through a few searches, but nothing terribly useful was showing up so I figured I could take the easy way out.

On a side note, is rust/corrosion going to be a terribly bad problem, and is there anything preventative I can do about it? I live in Michigan, and to say that we go a little go a little slap-happy with the road is like saying Hell is a tad uncomfortable.

There's no CAI and I doubt there will be. The routing of the pipes will be difficult. We just got Junest '04 V6 back from Injen with her new short ram, but they said there no way to run the pipes. When they test fitted one, the filter sat right behind the radiator, so they went with the short ram. Well, good luck finding one. I've got a '00 and the fender wall is open under the fuse box. Unfortunately, the '04s have them sealed up.

I saw one guy that put up a step-by-step guide on how he did it. It pretty much came down to taking a short-ram, some flexable piping, and a splash guard and feeding it down. He didn't mention having any major issues with doing it, but I guess I should press him for more details.

First off, I hope it's not the one that was on Ebay, that didn't look any good at all. Anyways, find out where the filter sits. I think that's the most important thing. I know Injen tried on a newer Camry and got way less HP than the short-ram. Let us know how it goes...

^ Wrong. Strictly plug and play. I know. I have one. The i4 also has an O2 sensor after the CAT.

Unless that is some crazy California difference.

This guy is in MI and has a Gen1.
