Speaking of Problems...

Read a couple of pretty interesting topics about some Solara owners going through dissapointing experiences with mechanical problems. I've got about 86,000 on mine and thank God no real problems yet. I have had my air bag light go on about three times in a 6 month period. Has anyone else had this happen to them & does anyone know why it may be happening..? It has come on and I've made it go away by restarting my engine. Any hoot, just thought I'd bring it up.

are you the original owner? if not, the air bag may have been repaired or replaced for some reason and the wiring botched. Go on the web and pay the $20 to do a vehicle history. If you are the original owner, pay the bucks to have it checked out by a toyota dealer.

you don't want to mess with airbags.

01RDSLE's referring to a Carfax (carfax.com) history report. I think it was his intention to see if there are any accidents in which the airbags deployed. It's not a maintanence history report, or at least, not at Carfax.

best thing to do is go to the dealer and get it check out, since there is nothing the consumer has to check out the airbag.

why dont you try to check the sensor underneath your passenger seat. tighten it. mine got loose cuz of the subs that i have. turn off the car and fidget with it and then turn the car on and see if that fixes it.

Yeah, that's what I'd do. It's only your airbags sensor. "Fidget" with it? You're kidding, right??

Take the smaert peoples' advice and take it to the dealer...

I recently went on a short 400 mile trip and my airbag light came on randomly. I pulled over and restarted the car and it was gone. That's the only time it has happened and hasn't happened since.

If you are going to try to check the airbag connection under the seat, I would recommend that you disconnect the negative, then positive cables on the battery and then wait 5 minutes, check the airbag connection, then reconnect battery; positive, then negative. I would also be very careful of any stray static charges, as this can set off the airbag. You can use a wrist lanyard (use when fix computer system boards, etc) grounded to the chassis to dissipate any static charge you might have.
The SRS system has a power backup system (capacitor?) so that in a crash, if the battery becomes disconnected, the airbags will still go off, that’s why you wait 5 minutes. I think the factory manual says to wait 1 minute, but I like to play it safe.
