Wiper Nozzle LEDS and the Law...

Wiper Nozzle LEDS and the Law...

Postby Grant516 » Mon Nov 08, 2004 11:59 pm

I notice a lot of you guys are from here in New York, we have a lot of ... pleasant NCPD officers here in Nassau County who often will give out trouble tickets because most people with awful looking gaudy integras and civics cause about half the accidents on the southern state.

Regardless I think some freedom of expression should exist.

http://www.nysgtsc.state.ny.us/emer-vt.htm#sec375
I have the written law there, and since I'm planning on putting two White (if its available, i'd rather those than super white) LEDs on the nozzles.
The black ones and not the chrome ones if it makes you all feel any better about me.

I know white was legal in California, but they'll pull you over for other INCORRECT tickets.
http://www.chp.ca.gov/html/streetlegal.html

God bless' em.

I really would like these things as a nice accent, and I certainly don't want to drive with them 24/7... but I also believe I don't deserve persecution for having them in the first place.

Anyone here with any good WHAT IS LEGAL in MY STATE and its surroundings?

read it right, white is ILLEGAL in california. the nozzle light is illegal in ALL states i believes, because that will disturbing other drivers and only cops can have light at that height.

in my opinion the nipple light (nozzle ilght) doesnt look great anyway, and it is a welcome-pullover device.

In Florida, white and green are allowed.. I know blue and red and amber as well as UV, are not allowed. My dad knows a Highway Patrolman, I'll see if he can dig up some info.

I personally thiink the nozzle lights are gay.
They don't help your night vision to to light up just your hood.
In OKC we have alot of ricers and random beaner cars that have civic that put the nozzle lights on.
The nozzle lights are just useless.

It does say White IS legal.
Every state has its own laws, so there shouldn't be a generic this is ILLEGAL, while citations exist for everything, they're not always right citations.

i understand that there is contraversy over whether they have any use (which is probably no) however I simply kind of like the way the white ones look.

Anyone have any relevant New York stuff on this?

I was reading some of that california stuff, and it seems that a LOT of stock cars have illegal things.

i've seen some BMW's and Durangos with side white lights as blinkers, apparently according to the CADMV VC's that is against the law.
So is the Nissan Altima's with the Red Turn Signals in the back, and not yellow/amber?

... ugh.

I remember mirror tints become an issue where cops wanted them gone, but they did come stock on some Lexus'.

I don't get it... fortunately new york is a little more lienent than california, but I would like to know why this is Either Legal or Not.

First off, amber or white turn signals are legal in front as long as there is also an amber turn signal. Thats a national law, and all cars abide by this, in stock trim. (if you see a white turn signal, theres always an amber turn signal too, either on the fender or below the other turn signal).

Secondly, red or amber turn signals are legal in the back. That also is a national law. (FYI white turn signals are not legal in the back)

Tints are state laws, and each car sold in each state abids by the state law. For instance, privacy glass (basically very dark or limo tint on the back windows) is not an option on cars sold in some states due to some states having a legal limit on the back windows.

Allowable reflectivity of tint also varies by state. For more info, go here:
http://www.iwfa.com/iwfa/Law_Chart/Stat ... 0Chart.htm

Now these light laws are national laws as far as I know. As tacky as I think nozzle LEDs are, I'll lay down the facts. I dont think theres any national law that address these specifically.

Pertaining laws that Ive run by in the past are
1) Any forward facing lights must be white or amber.
2) You can have no more than two auxiliary lights (i.e. a cop can say its illegal if you have foglights as well).

Im sure theres a few other laws, but primo facto, Any one is illegal on the solara due to the second one. Even if you didnt have fogs, as it is with any law like this, they could probably interpret it as illegal if they wanted to.

thank you much for the informative reply.

its a shame i kind of like those white wiper leds...
but I don't want trouble to be spawned of them.

The ONLY reason I want tints is because I keep thigns in my car and I'd rather not have people looking in and stealing from them.

Strange laws we have.

rice != "modz"

I hate all mods that include rediculous flashy lights, making your exhaust sound like armagedon, making your car look like a different model/brand, and most of all altezzas.

If you consider those to be all aftermarket "modz" then i really don't know what to say to you.
