Stock talk about the Generation 1 and 1.5 Toyota Solara which were produced from 1999 to 2003.

What would you choose?

oh i totally agree with the auto tranny problems. in fact, many companies including honda have auto tranny problems, that is why i will never own one. honda and acura manual trannys will last forever if you take care of them. like is said, paulo from my acuralegend forum has gone 345k miles on his original 5 speed manual honda tranny. its amazing. but on this CL-S we are talking about a 6-speed manual... i bet that thing shifts like a god.

The only problem with a CL 6-speed is that it's discontinued already, so if you plan to sell that later, the price is going to suffer badly.

Also, the reason why CL was discontinued was because it's not that popular... it can only attract a small crowd.

nkx1 wrote:Thanks for the replies guys. I think I'm kind of leaning towards keeping my Solara. It's kinda fast (V6 5spd), and if I get a wood dash kit, it will look luxurious for $15k less than the Acura. And if I lower it and install a TV system (such as in-dash, or in the sunvisors), I think I will be pretty happy with it. I'm happy with it now, but I would just enjoy it more after the mods. So the most my Solara will cost to fix up will probably be less than $2000, which is way cheaper than the CLS 6spd (even though it is a cool car).

Btw, if you go to www.acura-cl.com, the tranny problems are with the auto trannies. The CL-S 6 spd is manual, and so far there have been very few 6 spd tranny-related issues. I don't think I'd buy an auto CL, even with the Acura 100k mile tranny warranty. 8)

Hey let me ask you this.. is another $145.00 per month for the Next 48 months worth it? I mean realy for just one second faster from 0-60? And more "Luxurious"? Comon don't let the other competion convince you. I would keep the solara just for that fact alone and invest the money into my Solara. Here are some more pros you did not mention. Your thinking about a "Used" car and how do you realy know how it was treated? You know your car in and out so buying a used car especialy a sports car that has a manual tranny is not a wise decision especialy when your going to pay more for someone elses posible headaches. This is just my opinion. Just imagine the day you finish paying your Solara!! You asked for my feedback so there it is. Good Luck.

That's a dope Kenwood deck :o But as far as your sitch goes, I was in the EXACT same situation as you. I was going to sell my car early last year and pick up a new CL 6-spd Type S. But I ended up keeping my Solara, and I'm happy I did. Although I must say that the CL is dope, I got to test drive it and it's cool...not as cool as test driving a NSX though  heehee but it does have some good power. The funny thing was I thought my friends would be stoked when I told them I was gett'n a CL. But they were all like Nooooooooo keep your car. Huh, go figure

ahh, same thing here. just stick with your solara. spend that extra 10k on your solara rather then just buying a CL.

Like most other ppl here, I'd like 10k put into a solara in mods than 10k more into an Acura. And yes, the late model v6s from 94 on up are not as dependable as the Toyota v6 platform.

A tastefully modded solara at the same price of a stock acura? cmon man, what were you thinking??
