Aight, well of course I wont know what it is til i'm able to check out the ride but I wanted to see if maybe any of u guys that have the CAI have experienced something similar.

This past Sunday after the SolaraGuy meet I met up with the SELOC guys and there were some Maxima guys there too (they had never seen a Solara 5-speed and hooked up like mine, they seemed to really like it, best compliment was that they had never thought a Solara could look like that, but ANYWAY, back to the original topic...) one of the guys asked me if he could take it for a spin so I gave him the keys. Here is where it starts:

He started the car and then all of a sudden I heard a high pitch whistle, and it appears to come from the CAI side of the vehicle. I say it "appears" because even after getting close to it, I still cannot tell where exactly it may be coming from. It also sounds like it may be coming from the MAF sensor (i think that's what is called), again, im not sure. I asked him to rev the engine to see if maybe this noise would change, get louder or anything like that but no, it remained constant at all times. I didnt mind the noise, i figured it wasnt anything big (it may probably not be anything, but something tells me it aint right) so he took it for a spin in the parking lot. Someone else had mentioned that maybe it was a belt (i had the timing belt and water pump replaced over a month ago, so maybe?) ... well this guy turned the car off and this high pitch noise remained on for maybe 3 more seconds after everything was off (which is why i'm thinking the intake has something to do with it). Well, 50 miles later and just as I was backing up the car in the garage, the "check engine" light came on. I havent had a chance to check it out since I'm flying to L.A. tomorrow but it keeps bugging the heck out of me.

So... does it sound like anything familiar to any of u???? I feel like I'm gonna have to wait til next week when i get back to take it apart and see what I can come up with ... anyway, thanks in advance for your assistance (and for reading this far lol) ... oh yeah, if i'm in the wrong thread, wooops!

Sounds like a vacuum leak. Check for a vacuum hose pulled off around the area where you heard the noise.

It might be the vacum hoses [one of them] or somethin'.
Check the hose clamps on your intake.

ok finally I was able to take a look at the car and see waz up. I removed the CAI completely, and put it back together, and now it's making that same whistle after turning it off. I'm thinking about taking it to the shop that did my timing belt and water pump last month, but I just want to know if in order to get the timing belt and water pump replaced, would they have to remove the intake? It did not make this noise before taking it to them so somehow I feel it's related. Thanks in advance for ur help!!

my car does the same thing.. the noise your hearing is the engine sucking air threw the filter... mine does it all the time.. it sounds like a whistle.. but its just sucking.. mine does it when its cold out or just had it started, but it ALWAYS does it when I turn the car off.. I know exactly what ur talking about.. the whole CEL thing I dunno... that could be a coincedence... get the CEL checked... but the whistle thing is regular for me anyways
Parting out my car!!! great upgrades for sale!

mine came back last night, will scan the code again today later, for sure it must be the 'cold' intake since i still can pull up to 5.5 psi.

ok update... i took it to this local shop and they were able to determine that the head gasket in the master cylinder is leaking. I know what you meant about sucking the air but believe me bro, this whistle is annnooooying as zhiet!!! even the guys at the shop were telling that it was driving them nutz because at 1st they couldnt figure it out but it's not the intake. Then they were able to show me where the master cylinder is, and how when they put pressure on it the noise would go away. They are ordering the part from Toyota and calling me back so i can take the car back..... so no one out there has had this problem??? weird... cause this one just came out the blue.
