How much ATF is added to the tranny for a routine drain & fill. My owners manual says 5 qts (no way 5 qts came out) but only about 2.5 qts filled up the dip stick mark??
Also, how often should the tranny filter be replaced??

Because they pump everything out of the tranny in a flush. When you just drain the fluid, there is still a lot in the torque converter and valve body, so that's why it takes more for a flush. Flushing is the better option, especially if you can request a certain brand, type of fluid (like Mobil 1 synthetic or Royal Purple synthetic)

i've never heard of a tranny filter? WTF is that?

I've heard of fuel filter, people suggest you change it every 10K miles, i do it every 30K (since i use premium BRANDED gas).

As far as tranny drain&fill - do note that its slightly higher if your an a/t since both the differential and the tranny drain have one common juice. (btw: i use 4qts for drain & fill)

Dealers do 10qts for flush, as they let a bulk of it pour out (which is good), its like bleeding the brakes...you let some out and pour in freshjuice...and then cap it again...
