Back support

Back support

Postby Jason4424 » Thu Nov 14, 2002 9:04 am

I recently bought a 2001 Solara (convertible, not that that matters for this post) and my back has begun to bother me. It seems as though the front seat doesn't give enough support. Has anyone else experienced this and if so, have you done anything specifically to the seat to help with this? Am I going to have to get an orthopedic back pillow at age 28?!?!

it is funny that you mention that. last weekend i drove about 13 hours in a rental. a pontiac sunfire, to be exact, and it is pretty small. my back killed me driving that car and i actually missed driving my solara. i've driven 9 hours in my solara and have had 0 problems. i think if you set it up correctly, with all the tilts, that you wouldn't have that bad of a problem. my solara to me is very comfortable on long drives. are you leaning back or forward when you drive?

what do you mean by lumbar support? is there a lumbar adjuster in the car that I should know about?

I have tried to make it so I sit more upright, and I guess that's helped some. I don't want to have to sit TOO straight up, but it's not like I lay back very far either. I'm slim and about 5'10.5".

Yeah, our cars have lumbar support, on the drivers seat, look on the right side...(by the elbow rest) there should be knob there....(very visible stick!!). turn it to adjust to your suited settings....i still think the most suited car for my back is a 1990 Cressida Wagon!

I made a post similiar to this on the TeamSC3 website. While some people agreed with me, others say that I'm just sitting bad (ie. lowridin) I was looking at some Ricaros..but the price is killer, and I dont wanna feel like an old person by buying those foam back support things :P And yes, I have the lumbar support on.

Recaros are amazing seats but they are expensive and wont match our interior. I have found that as my seat breaks in more, it gets more confortable

Also is there any correlation between cloth and being unconfortable or leather and being unconfortable

The seat simply doesn't give enough support. You are not sitting straight if your back curves with the seat.

My solution? Live with it until I get money for some sport seats...

i think the solara is the most comfortable car i've driven in...i like it cause it's not too soft like some cars, but not too stiff like others. like you know the luxury cars that are so soft you feel like yur gonna fall asleep, or little compact cars that you can't get comfortable no matter what u do..it's like sitting on stone?

i don't mind when i'm parked waiting to pick someone up..move the seat back and slide down a little and i'm in nap heaven! sooo comfortable!

i would definitely check yur lumbar support, that might be the answer to your question. i didn't even realize i had one till someone showed me..they put it to the max support and it was so uncomfortable!!

yea, i'm wondering about the comfort w/ cloth vs. leather...i have leather an it's really great, but i wouldn't think that the cloth would be pretty much the same cause it's the same car.
