which kind of tire brand are good?

im in the process of looking for tires. the rims ill be using is 18x8 i think i will be using 225/40/18 tire size...

so now im debating on which brand of tires to get.. its for all season daily driven 02 solara. that will handle good with bay area roads. esp potholes and such. im not intrested in kumho. im looking for somthing under 150.00 per tire. low-profile. im on a budget.

has anyone heard of federal tires? any good?

Take a look at the Toyo Proxes 4 and the Nitto nt-555's 235-40-18's are closer to the original diameter but you might have to trim/roll the rear fenders.

I had some Federal tires on my old arospeed rims. They work pretty good.. thread wear is great on those tires.

I would look into the falken st 115. Good price and good thread wear and its zr rated. or what he mentioned above ^^

I got the new Bridgestone Fuzion zr-I on mine. Low profile and they ride very quiet and smooth. Handling is decent too, and in the rain I feel very safe. Low price, especially in higher profile tires, and good wear rating.

continental contipatch or something (non contiextreme) currently have those and its great. Compared to my old Dunlop SP Sport9000's, grip is sacrificed but it has a treadwear of 600 vs the usual 260-300 or less for a sports tire. Price when I got mine was 95bucks at tirerack.com, but I believe theymight have raised all prices.

I love my Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's. The same tires my friend has on his brand new $93,000 Porsche Carrera S. Not recommended for snow, of course. I have Nittos briefly but I found them to be very noisy.

my rims are the same size, and i hav 225/40/18. I used to hav 245/40/18 and they rubbed on the struts. so yea... watch out on that. 235 might be a bit better grip but if i were u id play it safe on the rubbing. I also have the fuzion zr1's and i love em too. Good all weather tires at a good price

ive actually read some good things on hancook (yes hancook of all tires) that are pretty decent and a great price. they did a test against the falken, toyo etc. and were almost equal in grip etc. at a hell of alot less. ill see if i can find the link.

Yoko AVS ES100 didn't even last 15k for me. Sure, some of it was burnouts and negative camber. I'm getting Fuzion's next.

Michelin Pilot Sport A/S are good but pricey.
I am running all season Sumitomo HTR+ right now and I am very happy with their performance (wet, dry, even snow). Plus they are under $100 each.

toyo's or yokohama. had toyo's, like them. now have yokohama avs-es100, like them as well.

actually.. now i realized the rims are going to be 18x8.5 .. anyone has a perfect fit with tires w/no rubbing on struts & fenders.?

i hav doubts about those fitting just because of how damn close my fit is with 8 width. im not sure. maybe if u dont get too big of tires and u get ur fenders rolled.

i got 18 * 8.5 with spacers and no rubbing... going to roll my fenders soon or cut the fenders??? im not sure wat tire size im running... got ne pics of the rims you going to get???
