Body Kit Paint and Install

Body Kit Paint and Install

Postby DonkeKong » Tue Nov 30, 2004 8:11 pm

I'm getting ready to order my body kit and spoiler, and I was originally planning on getting it prof installed because i want it perfect. However, I got some estimates for paint and install ranging from $800-1200. Its the r34 kit so its fiberglass and i guess replaces the front and rear bumpers. Anyway, im scared to do it myself because ive seen some poorly done installs. The only good one I've seen that I know it was done by himself was on my friends car and his is flat black and urethane. So, I'm worried about fitting the fiberglass myself and matching the factory paint. However, if i really thought I could do a good job I'd do it with help from friends or sumthing cuz i dont really hav $1000 to spare atm. So, my question is... would you recommend professional paint and install? or if i could do it myself how do i get started? THe guy at the body shop told me my white paint coat is a 3 step process to match, and I want a perfect match. Is it plausible for me to be able to match that myself, and fit the fiberglass? i dont really know much of anything about this process, and i'm somewhat intimidated about risking having it not be perfect. So, yea. thx for any opinions and tips

i'd recommend having it professionally installed. it will always turn out better in the end. if u dont have the money, save up. Because it would be really really hard to fit the kit on the car, and even harder to paint match it. just my opinion. But if u want to do it urself, good luck. :D

Fit & Fiberglass you can DIY if you have the skills. Paint no way, unless you have a booth and some expensive equipment. I am doing my own fit and fiberglass (hours and hours of work), but I am not even going to try paint, as I don’t have the proper gear.
Let's just pretend I didn't grow up, or you're going to be terribly disappointed.

personally, i would recommend a professional install. i have the regular lip kit and it's fiberglass. it came out to be $1092 for 12 hours of fiberglass work and 2 or 4 hours of paint. the fabricator even told me that it was one of the best fitting kits he had ever put on, but even so, he still needed to do fiberglass work to fill-in all the "light" spots and make each piece proportional.

Your estimate is a fair price. I payed roughly 5 g's for my black widow kit, spoiler, and black sand pearl paint.

Thanks for the tips, I spent the day calling around today. I'm getting everything done at a local shop. $450 for the kit, $150 for the spoiler, $150 shipping, $250 paint and install, and like $20 for painted custom eyelids. So, after tax its just under $1200. They're giving a huge discount on the paint and install since im buying the kit and spoiler through them. Can't wait. Thx again

Yeah, way too much! But, I got a bad kit. Also, everything was molded on and I had the whole car repainted to stock black pearl.
