it all depends on your driving.

a person can get an average 31mpg while another person can get an average 18mpg. (same distance, but different driviing habits.)

manual cars dont have overdrive as far as i know. i always thought overdrive was the last gear in an automatic that allows the engine to partially disengage from the wheels while cruising. if you've noticed, on an automatic, if you're on the freeway doing about 80mph, ull be around 3000 rpm in a solara. but if you let off the gas completely and coast, the rpms will drop down to around 1000-1500 until you hit the gas again. in a manual, however, the engine and wheels are connected through the clutch, so the engine speed is directly proportional to the speed of the car, depending on which gear you are in. hence, if you're doing 80 in a v6 5-spd solara like mine, you're at around 3200 rpm. and if you let off the gas and coast, the rpms will only drop when the speed of the car drops (it will go down to about 3000rpm when you hit 75 mph). and this is all while the gas pedal is not being touched at all.

Try holding onto the gear shift and let off the gas in 5th gear. I believe the movement you feel pushing back is the transmission disengaging, but I could be wrong.

nope that is your clutch spring relieving from the torque your engine is delivering to the clutch as you accelerate.

i dunno bout you guys but when i race on the highway.. my 4th gear pulls much better against cars that are close.... and then i start pulling away quicker.. its wierd but i like it.. i dunno if thats because of the flywheel or gearing...

The term overdrive refers to anything less than a gear ratio of 1:1, thus 4th @ .92 and 5th @ .73 are overdrive gears. This is not the same as and not to be confused with final drive ratio.

Off the topic, I really wish our 2nd gear was shorter...

I unno. I feel like my first gear can use some better quickness, Second I feel the pull but can use more too, third kinda sucks, 4th gear HECK YEAH WHAAWHOOO (Holding onto my nuts) and 5th gear feels like the car is crusing again:(....Other then that. If i drive on a regular road at lets say 40 to 45 ish mph, will putting the car on 5th gear save gas? I know theres different driving habits but Im asking over all....

I'm surprised that 3rd gear isn't strong on your car. Both 3rd and 4th are strong on mine, but 3rd really pulls.
