Experience Selling cars?

Experience Selling cars?

Postby gabe » Thu Dec 09, 2004 1:26 pm

Okay, so I'm a newbie and I need to sell my 2000 Solara. Its a 6cyl with about 69k miles. It has a few dings on the car it self, it comes fully loaded as far as the original 6 cd changer, power windows, moon/sun roof leather seats, the works. From you guy's experience how much would the car go for?

Any thoughts would help. Thanks guys! :o

Yeah, bought it 2 years ago and have just used it for work and school (moved to cali and I dont hang out much here) - Would it be better to see if a dealer will give me some more money for it? As you can tell, I'm obviously clueless.

dealers will give your kbb.com trade in value. they will give you that pricing in a minute..but the mulla is less. If you try to sell yourself..you'll get more, but the marketability all depends on your price/condition of car.

Gabe, check out the used car appraisal feature of edmunds.com click here

It's helped me go in educated on the last three cars I've bought or sold. Gives you average trade-in, open market, and dealer price based on condition, options and your zip code.

Post it up for sale in the autotrader website. You'll definitely get more money selling it yourself to another person (not dealer) but there are issues like financing and lack of warranty that would make it a little harder for you. Taking it to a dealer will give you the quick cash but less of it. Take a little time and wait for someone to come to you and you can pocket a few extra grand. I'd say going rate for the car would be around 10-12k in Calif. I bought my '99 SLE with 38k for $12,500. I bought it from a private party but it was certified by Toyota and came with the 100k warranty and LoJack. I paid a little more than I expected but the car is brand new inside out.

It's all about how you market what you have for sale.
