Oil change and $ dilemma

Oil change and $ dilemma

Postby B_Master_Flash » Tue Dec 21, 2004 6:21 pm

So I've been using mobile 1 synthetic since I've had my car, but right now money is tight (holidays + no job = bad). Its recommended to have synthetic oil changed every 6k miles, right now I have about 8k on my oil. My question is, should I throw some cheap stuff in there right now, or should I hold out another moth and get the good stuff (mobil 1 syn and good filter)? I'm thinking I'll wait till I have the $. Mobile 1 is pretty much the best stuff on the market, I'm pretty sure I could put 10k miles on it w/o any engine damage. Also I do have a K&N oil filter on there, it should hold out with no problems.
Nascar would be a sport if half the cars were driving the other direction.

where do you drive?

looks like you are a high-mileage driver.

just check the oil and pay more attention to it.

between sacramento, fresno, and the bay area the miles add up. the oil is ok, its pretty black but its still got enough.

Easier said than done. I was unemployed for whole 9 months (sure did the odd end jobs, but a real job took a while to get)..you automatically spend less as you got none!

B_Master_Flash: Just watch your oil colors and you make the judgement call. Surely the synthetic has its properties that make it last longer, but you got to decide if those limits are reached. Good LUck!

Acutally I did do that. Imagine loosing from 160lb down to 125 in only one month....I kept it like that for half a year. Sucks but helped pay for gas on the maxima I use to have...Hard I admit. Especially when solara parts cost soo much. Hate it.
