whenever i turn the wheel i hear a metal "twinging" noise...i usually hear this on occassion but as of late i am hearing even more of the noise when i am moving and turning as well as stationary and just turning my wheels. could something be wrong with my steering rods?

It could be the rack and pinion (sp?) going bad. Definatly bring her in for a diagnostic ;) What year and how many miles?

it's a 99 w/ just under 60k on it...it's weird cuz the sound was really obvious the other day, and now the noise seems to come and go :-?

That won't cause that sound. If the P/S belt was worn/broken, then it'd be a pain to steer =P No hydrulic help makes it quite difficult, unless you're strong. Other than that, I can't really give you an answer to what it may be
