Postby Hsakuragi » Thu Dec 16, 2004 11:16 pm

That's a hella deal...I got my OEM oil filter from the dealership for 4 bux each and I thought that was good.

Keep us posted if you find a cheaper place.

OEM Oil Filter

Postby SleeperSolara » Mon Dec 20, 2004 11:14 am

Personally i hate OEM filters, cause i can never get them off, wit the oil filter cap i've got, [it is the smallest one]. So i just use Bosch oil filters, nothing else.

I think I can get them for about $3.30 each (dealer cost is just under $3)

Let me know the next time you're down in LA

I've always used Fram filters, had them on every car my family's owned for as long as I can remember. They're only like $3.50 w/tax.

I heard the Frams pretty bad too. I've been using it since my dad always got them when he taught me how to do my own changes, but since then I heard theyre filter element is held together with cardboard, and problems with thier internal valves. (For one, I heard thier bypass valve opens too easily, so it operates unflitered too much). Another story I heard the filter element acutally collapsed so the oil stopped flowin past the filter and the engine siezed. Not a typical senario, but its scary nonetheless.

I heard OEMs the best way to go for most cars. It's just a few cents more and thier better built.

YES it fcuking sucks!

while I was still with the gen 3 camry, i did an oil change with that POS filter, and guess what, the black seal thing on the filter where you screw to the engine got peeled off and my car's oil was all dropping on the street after I drove almost a mile to the gas station while the oil check light was on, I was like wtf i just changed my oil....

4 qts of oil on street because of this POS..
