Air noises from the drive door

Air noises from the drive door

Postby SleeperSolara » Wed Nov 17, 2004 9:43 am

Every time i drive up to about 40 mph, i hear noises comin in or around the driver door, near the end of it [close to the door handle]
I know that I shut the door tight cause the door light doesn't light up at all.
Could the air be comin' in from the door handle??
What do you guys think it is.

People always blame frameless windows for the wind noise. I'm at 140K on my ES (which also has frameless windows), still nothing there yet (KNOCKS OF WOOD).

Edit: For my celica, a toyota tech has mentioned this many many moons ago for the rubber thing to be cleaned with soap water and dried nicely some solution that won't dry it out. I've never done that myself..just so you know...

Window noise

Postby mrdish » Mon Dec 27, 2004 3:40 pm

If you already had it adjusted a few times then I would want to know why these people didn't mention the stripping, unless you went to different people.

so you saying most likely the weatherstrip is the cause of the air noise on the driver door?
If that the case, can we replace the weatherstrip by ourselves or take it to a professional?

A curious question, how come it always from the driver side, and never from the passenger? doesnt it sound kinda odd that it alway the driver side, and it seem that a lot of people experience the same thing on the forum. Could it be a flaw in our solara design or something

The drivers door is used more frequently right?

Which side of your car do you get in and out of the most? Simple logic that the door that sees the most use (someone has to be in the driver's seat any time you go somewhere, right?) will see the most wear and tear.

For the weather stripping, I always used a paper towel and some Armor-All. Put the armor-all around the stripping with the paper towel, let it sit for 15 seconds or so, and wipe it clean. Keeps the rubber supple and (as far as I've noticed) prevents cracking.
