Have you done your basic maintenance?

Check the air filter - change to a clean one?
Check the tire pressures to see if they dropped? Low tire pressures (below recommended) = less mileage
Check the plugs to see if they are fouled? or have bad electrodes?
Change the fuel filter?
Possibly add weight to the vehicle ie: stereo system?
add any performance mods that could reduce mileage?

Other than excessive weight, none of these will apply as a 'sudden change'. If the plugs are fouled, he should be able to notice that he's running on 5 cylinders or less.

It could be just as broad, but there are much simpler solutions like not using your defroster, rev below 3k in the first 3 gears, or find a different gas station.

Really? I have had bad plugs give me poor gas mileage and yet show no signs of misfire.

Mine has started doing the same thing lately. I'm thinking it may be the winter gas?

Your initial fuel numbers are very parallel to my '00 SE-V6 5-speed manual shift DWP.......25-27 and 31-33 HWY. You are due for plugs at 60k; my cost for this was $197 which included air/oil filters. So for less than 200 clams - provided you are a 'smart shopper' you can return (hopefully) to the society of fuel efficient forkers....................ez

So you're saying he was driving conservative and now driving like a maniac? Doesn't make sense.

I drive mostly conservatively and my gas mileage has gone to hell recently. I think it's just the winter gas.

Its not just that its old oil and/or gas.
I'm not sure where he is located but most winter gas is of a different blend, i think its more oxygenated.

Also when i use my remote start a lot, my gas mileage gets crappy
