Wiring up my system

O I forgot to tell ya, be careful when you drill I have had to friends have some funny experiences, one drilled a lexus and forgot that some of there earlier cars have SAND in the firewall to dampen the sound. And another friend started to drill and his bit got tangled up and he didnt know why, I went over and looked and had hit a series of wires going down the firewall that he didnt know about, that was a bit_h to fix, I dont recommed drilling, be careful. Also you should run RCA's one side of the car and you PWR down the other this helps with engine noise. It makes it harder but its worth it sometimes specially in older cars. Dont forget to disconnect your battery! Good Luck. (didnt mean to scare ya)

I always called it trunk carpet it the thinnest and easiest to work with. And as for the adhesive you cant go wrong with any 3M product home depot should carry a carpet adhesive. GOOD LUCK on carpeting your box, I hate doing that sh_t. I usually just pay someone.

trunk liner is somewhat different from the box carpet, you want the one that we use on boxes, its thicker and easier to hide cuts.

If u can get box carpet from a stereo shop thats the way to go GUNMAN is right. If I were to do it no matter what u could still see my cuts after the glue dried. I say pay GUNMAN to do it.

yeah icufg, im running my rca's down the right side of my car, and i checked for anything in the way before drilling already. i have a small hole already, just need to make it bigger now....way bigger. as for the box carpet, home depot doesnt sell em? how much to they run aroun?

1 more question, there's 2 ground wires running to the battery, one to the engine and one to the chasis ( i think, correct me if im wrong ) when i replace with the 0 gauge, where do i run it to?

i might not be understanding you, so im going to try to explain the whole thing. This is what you need to run to the back from the engine only the power wire, from the dash amp turn on, rca's, and power wire.(no ground) You want to get the ground from the back of the car as short as possible. Scuff a place off on the frame of the car in the trunk (be careful with the gas tank) make sure all the paint is off, drill or use a self tapping screw to ground your negative wire in the trunk. Now take the other end of that wire and attach it to the Capacitor. Make another wire and on the same neg lead of the cap run a short one to the amp. Make sure that the ground is tight to the frame you dont want it to come loose.

yeah, i got all that already, but gunman said i have to change the ground on the battery to 0 gauge to complete the path. im talking about the 2 wires taht go to the battery, one leads to the engine, and the other leads to the chassis under the hood.

I see what he is saying man, what kind of system r u hooking up? Sounds like 100 amps and 50 caps. You really dont have to do that, Ive hooked up a lot of systems and never had done that. But if u want you can add another wire to that like a 4 gauge and ground it to the chassis if you like but no matter what you should need anything larger than whats on it from the factory, reason being their is not that much draw from from the neg cable if thier is any. All the power is being drawn out from the pos cable. Im pretty positive about that.

the reason for that is the fact that your running 0g. If you follow general flow principles, you have to remember Kirchoff's Current Law. Which states that the total current entering a point or junction in a circuit must equal the sum of the sum of the currents leaving that point or junction. Basically what he was trying to tell us was the guage coming in has to be the same going out. 4g in 4g out. Think of your power and ground connections as a big loop from and to the battery. This principle is applied for the conventiional current flow, where current moves from positive to negative. So if your using a 0guage off your battery its a good idea to have 0 guage come back on to it. Now if too small of ground guage could develop a voltage drop where you get into Kirchoff's Voltage Law, which in basic form cause electrial equipment to overheat, motorboat or fail. :D

Gunman u are confusing peter beyond understanding, for that fact me to what I see is someone that reads to much and doesnt have any experience. If you are going to tell someone to use a 0 gauge power wire when they could use a 4 gauge and save a lot of money and headache. I agree totally with Kirchoff's law, how can i not. The only time that that law plays a toll is when for example you have two of the same lenth wires in this case the whole car is a conductor for your neg. If peter asked me to have two different size RCA's I would have told him u could not do that cause of the "LAW". Also you need to take in to account that Direct Current is way different from Alternating Current.

By the way I was questioning my self on this Peter and I called the Stereo shop that I worked at here in SC (Master Electronics) and they also agreed with me. If you would like to call and ask any questions they would be more than happy to answer any. 864-879-2662

ok icufg, what experience do you have? Exactly how many cars have you worked on? How long have you installed? The reason I suggested 0, is really simple, his amp pulls about 80amp worth of power. Bringing that back about a min of 13ft(and we both know its gonna be longer) IASCA, that right IASCA states he should have a min of 2 guage power going back. Look it up for yourself. Also he's planing of using a sub amp down the road, if any amp of 30 amps or more, would then put him over the 125amp rating and then qualify for............... omg, what does IASCA say?.....................0 guage. Now if your so "experienced" what effect does a ripple have on a voltage system? The answere is really easy, thus you just answered my question. As far as RCA goes, which uses alternating current you should have balanced or time correct windings, for the simple fact low freq. travel at lesser speeds than the higher freq., so please dont use that in a statement in where your refering to Kirchoff. it makes you look really stupid, since he was talking about DIRECT current. For what he got his amp kit he saved a lot of money as it is. Now quickly print this up so you can ask someone else that knows if this has any weight. Cause i can sure tell this is way over your head. For your information Peter is doing great for someone who's never done this before. Now deek go away you bother me. :drinking: [/u][/b]

thanks gunman!

damn, sorry i started this fight between you two, hope it doesnt go too far. im still wondering about my earlier question that hasnt been answered though. "there's 2 ground wires running to the battery, one to the engine and one to the chasis ( i think, correct me if im wrong ) when i replace with the 0 gauge, where do i run it to? the engine or the chasis?"

Gunman, their are a lot of different factors when considering the size of power wire Resistance is one and many more, Im not having a pissing contest with all im saying is that I think 0 gauge is over kill for his app. as for Kirchoff ill be honest dont know who the f_ck he is, I always used my fluke to calculate the resistance of the wire. But to answer peter the Chassis.
