CD Player skips???

I have a 2000 model and no problems. You might be blaming the wrong guy on this though. I know my old CD player on my last car would not read the cheapo CDRs/CDRWs I bought at the store. It would also skip on certain brands. So through trial and error I learned to stick with either TDK or Memorex (except for the black face - stay with blue or green).

The newer CD players can handle it and it is not as big of a deal but my friends say every now and then they have problems with the cheap CDs too.

If not, I don't know if this matters, but have a friend burn you a CD with their drive and see if that makes a diference. I'm very happy with the way my player plays my CDs. I don't think i paid that much for Memorex/TDKs either, so if you're not using those, it might be worth a try.

I forgot where I read it but I remember reading that those things actually either 1) do nothing or 2) hurt the optical components.

if anything if the person smokes, it can help keep the lens clean, again the solution might be a simple one.

I think it is time to stop blaming your car's CD player and start blaming your CD burner. Try playing that same CD to another car with stock sound system, I bet it will skip. Now, try playing that same CD with a cheap audio CD player, I bet it will skip.
Solara stock CD players are not that great, but if you're saying your CD skips even when you are paarked, then it has to be the CD.

Nope... I tried it in the stock unit in the Boxster S. (crappy Porsche cd player) it never skips regardless of how bumpy the road is. (still much bumpier than my Solara Stage 3) I tried it in Ford Explorer JBL 6 disc changer... no skip either.

I've used HP burner burning at 1x AND using TDK cdr which is specifically for burning cd. No luck, still skips.

Now I use a different burner and same result.

when u guys say skip..do u mean skip like you hit a bump or pothole and the laser jumps...or do u mean skip like yur sitting at a red light and put in a perfectly good cd (both burned or bought) and it just starts skipping and doing whatever the fu*k it feels like doing??

min does the latter..both store bought cds and burned cds skip (not all the time, but about 95% of the time), but like i was blabbing bout before, if i play around w/ it it usually stops unless i take it out again.

I second that. But I think you need to have that checked if you dont want to replace it with a good system.

The stock cd player isn't that great at playing cds. I had trouble using some burned cds. I would goto switch tracks and it would give me Err 1. After CD players are ususally much better

Yea, I had that problem where my stock CD player would skip frequently. I cleaned it..it worked for a good weak, and it kept doing the same thing. I ended up buying a kenwood mp3 player b/c it REALLY irritated me.

My car is doing the same thing. I still have the stock unit too, and every cd I put in skips--CDRs and store bought cds, too. It's really starting to piss me off, but it sounds like the same thing that's happening to Missay, even when I'm sitting still it skips like no other. If you figure anything out let me know, please.
