Adjusting TRD kit

Adjusting TRD kit

Postby thealkimo » Sat Jan 22, 2005 9:42 pm

i just installed my gen1.5 trd kit today and due to my lack of attention i have a small gap (1/8" at most) between one of the valences and my front bumper because the 3m adhesive stuck before i wanted it to, and now it's a too hard to adjust with my bare hands. any suggestions on how to remove the valence and where can i find more of that 3m foam adhesive that came with the kit so i can attempt to re-install?

wuts up man...i got my gen1.5 primered kit from Michaels Artic Frost here on the boards and he had it painted for me too for $275 which is bargain since everywhere else would charge me $375+

unfortunately, unless you gotta a major hookup you're prob going to have to spend 4 bills

ill tell ya kimo, i did the same thing. fortnatly, i was able to pry it off just enough to restick the tape and position it for the two or three aftermarket bolts i put in..

YOu know, there is about 30 pounds of snow and ice grasping to the body kit and it seems to be holding very well.....or atleast until i see them skidding on the highway in my rear view mirror.

When i got my body kit with the premounted tape, i thought "there is no way this is gonna work", but to my amazment, that tape is STRONG. VERY STRONG.

It can be tough but you can pull it off. Remember it's poly. The instructions list the 3M tape type to buy if you need to reattach. I can't find my instructions but maybe someone else can help you out if you lost your instructions or threw it away. The only hard part is removing the old stuff. Make sure to do a good job there.

Just get some lighter fluid and spray it along the seam. Give it about 30 seconds to soak in then pull her off.

Before you reinstall get some 3M adhesive removerr and clean both attaching areas. You can get the 3M tape at any auto parts store. I got mine at Pep Boys.

Good Luck.

Oh, one last hint. Do it when it is hot or the warmest your area gets as the parts do expand a little. This will do wonders in preventing the seams from showing if you did it when the temp was cold and the parts expanded a litlle due to the warmth.

the 3m tape you need should say 5lbs strength on it or just have a red backing and the tape itself would be gray.
