Decode your Solara!

Decode your Solara!

Postby soniasolara » Wed Nov 20, 2002 10:04 pm

Hey...anyone know the specifics of decoding the Solara VIN?
I found this guide:
http://www.autohausaz.com/html/vehicle_ ... mbers.html

My Solara is 2T1CG22P21Cxxxxxx (I'm not giving the final 6 production digits).

2=Canada
T=Toyota
1=not sure what this one is for, something about manufacturing division
CG22P=I have no idea what these mean
2=check digit. There's some math computation with the entire VIN, and the remainder is this digit.
1=Model Year. 1999 is X, 2000 is Y, 2001 is 1.
C=assembly plant. The 99-01 Solaras are made in Ontario.
last 6 digits: production sequence code

This site will decode your car as well:
http://www.analogx.com/contents/vinview.htm

I'm curious about digit positions #4-8. Anyone know?

Thanks, Yohon! Great information!

Though I'm disappointed to find out that the paint code is not included in the VIN. Ironically, the sequence "1C4" which is the code for silverstream opalescent appears in my VIN so I thought it was included...but I guess not.

I once read about how a late 1960s Dodge Charger had a VIN which indicated a certain paint color, but the color that it actually had from the factory was a color available only on another model (e.g. Challenger, Dart, etc.) That car ended up being worth a lot of money.
