wierd sound

wierd sound

Postby grsd03 » Mon Jan 31, 2005 1:04 am

Hi, I have a 99 sle auto, I got this wierd sound when pressing the gas pedal between 30 -50km/h, its a humming sound, it only happens when pressing the gas not when coasting. I searched the forum and saw something about bearings but I wasn't sure if that would happen only when pressing the gas. Another issue I have is i think my front struts are loose, is there a way to tighten these at home or do you have to take it to the dealership. I saw one post that described the process of tightening it but it said something about making a line on the top and then tightening, I'm not quite sure what they meant.

Also I wanna say this is the best forum out there, very useful information.

Thanks alot

Can you tell where the sound is coming from, like "lower right front?" Also, does the noise sound the same with the radio and the a/c off? What aftermarket parts do you have?

thanks for replying sunrise, umm the sound is coming from like the mid to front center of the car like near the transmission, its kinda hard to tell but I think thats where its coming from. I get the tranny fluid and maintenance done on a regular basis so I don't think it can be the tranny. The radio and a\c are off, and for after market parts all I have is a k\n filter.

once in a while , my car also does some humming noise at 5th gear when i press the gas pedal, around 50mph, not on 4th, or 3rd gear, as soon as i let go the gas pedal, low humming noise goes away, so sound like transmission or engine related, the car drives ok, so i just ignore it.

If you say it only happens when you hit the gas, I can only assume its the engine igniting.

There's got to be some noise for continuous combustion going on inside there.

engine mounts?? I'll check them but I don't understand how the engine mounts would make a humming sound when only pressing the gas going between 30 and 50 Km/h (18 to 32 mph).
