I didnt know where to post this but i wanted to ask if when u get a remote car starter installed with ur car alarm install, they take ur key that has the transponder\chip and hide it somewhere in the car, so u need to get another key, now do i need a key that has a chip or any key that was a copy of the master key. Im confused. :-?

Dawgz,

I belive that the installer will make a copy of your key. Few years ago, when i got my Viper alarm/starter installed, they asked me to bring the master key in. After the installation, i still have two keys with me (one master, one for vallet).

And for the record, i don't know where the heck they hid that key with the bypass chip. Few weeks ago, i changed my ingition light and the remote stater stopped working. Yesterday, I almost took the whole alarm out to figure the problem, but it was an unsuccessful move.

the installed chooses where to hide the chip... it's a small box... about the size of a cigarette box (lxw, not depth, maybe only 1/2 as deep)... but it defeats the purpose of the transponder... now you can use a cut key that doesnt have a transponder in it...
