Carbon Fiber Hoods

Carbon Fiber Hoods

Postby xlxdarkmarinexlx » Wed Feb 02, 2005 2:02 am

I did some researching and lookin around on the web and on the forum, I want to get a carbon fiber hood, but what i've heard is mixed about ViS, so then i went to check out Fiber Images, but they dont have a fiber hood for the 03 solara, dont know what the change is from the 02 to 03 but im not sure what to get, I have so many excessive scratches on my hood that i have now because of driving on Highway 5 up and down from nor cal to so cal and back. Damn scratches... Anyways so if anyone can help it would be muchly appreciated, If Fiber Images doesnt make it for my car then i might have to go with ViS hood, but i'm also gettin that trunk with carbon fiber hopefully....

First off, disclaimer - I think carbon fiber ANYTHING on the body of a car looks ricey and gay... and there are issues with the hoods just, y'know, breaking off an' stuff. Unless you're actually using this vehicle for competitive racing where weight is an issue (in which case you might as well take your interior out), it's retarded.

That being said, there is no difference between the 02 and the 03. There is between the 99-01 and the 02-03 (and many companies get this mixed up).

99-03 hoods are all the same. Bumpers *front* and tail lights differ along w/ a few more standard accessories as we move toward 03.

I agree w/ Duffy - CF = GAY unless you really need it to reduce that weight... instead of doing the hood, get doors done! Our doors are super duper heavy

Well I'm damn sure not gay and I love CF. I've got lots on my show car and more coming. As far as the CF hood, yea it will break if you buy a cheap one. You get what you pay for.

for the hood-
cf material is beneficial for dissipating heat. well, better than metal that is.

as long as you have hood pins or hood locks installed, you should be fine.

you might also wan to look into investing in a front end mask, the plastic piece that goes on the front of the hood, above the headlights, thats sposed to save your hood alot.

CF is not gay.
you can lose as much as 40 lbs. from cf hood.
wether you think it makes much of a difference or not, weight is weight, and you might need that little extra help if you make those extra stops by burger king.
fake cf paper is gay lol :bday:

If you can afford it. get the fiber images CF hood. They have a better warranty then VIS. Also they use clearcoat on there hood to keep from discoloring and fading. VIS uses gel coating which will discolor over time and Fade if you dont keep it maintianed or have it sitting in the Sun too much.

VIs hood is about $300+Shipping

Fiberimages hood is around $600 plus shipping.
