Should i get a Solara?

Should i get a Solara?

Postby NotASolaraYET » Sun Feb 06, 2005 10:38 am

I just registered today, and i dont currently have a Solara... Yet!...
I will be getting something for my graduation present, i was going to get a 05 Legacy, but we found out that Allstate would rape us if i get a brand new car. So i am looking at used ones.

So far.. I think i am going to get a 4cyl.. I test drove one i liked alot yesterday, a 03 Solara SE 2.4L-- JBL, Alloys, Spoiler.. Its at my great uncles dealership.. He is asking $13,500 for it.. it has 26k.. He told me that if we pay cash he will let it go for $11,500..

Reasons for 4 cyl being gas mileage, and insurance is less. I am pretty much just getting a car to get me to school and back.. I currently have a 99 MalibuLS with 137k (i drive alot here in ky) but i am moving to my moms in Harrisburg PA in May after graduation.. I was surprised that the 4 cyl had more pick-up then my malibu and its a v6 (i hate it.. )
Also-- I find awesome deals around here on 00-01 2.2's -- how much do they suck, would it be a huge difference from my 3.1 v6?

Thanks.. anyone.. Please just tell me if you would get a solara.. Im still looking at 00-02 Accord EX 4cyl. and some 04 ish Mazda6 4 cyl, and last but not least.. some 02-04 Altima 4cyl..

I tested out the Altima and the Solara yesterday, i really really like the way solaras drive, they remind me of the smoothness of my grandmothers camry, but with alot better handling..

Thanks!!! Have a great day!!!
In case anyone cares!!-- This is a link to my car now.. For a stock malibu, i think it looks decent.. Thanks..

I'd get the 03

2.2s got 25HP less and doesnt have VVTI. And 11.5 an excellent price for the 03, I'd be all over that.

No way in hell i would get a Civic.. I like them and all. But i am definitely not a compact type of person.. I think i would be taking a step down if i went from my car to a Civic.

When i was looking at new cars, i test drove a 05 Civic EX coupe.. and the dinky sound of the engine, hollow doors, dinky horn.. No thats not me at all..

I really like the solaras and if i dont get this silver one (they want me to get a job, and wait till graduation time) then i am going to look for a Pearl white, red, or blue one.
Probobly gonna be a 2.4L 4 cyl, thats all i really want right now. Then closer to College Grad-- Subaru Legacy GT here i come!!

The horn is still dinky on the Solara.

I really dont like the 4cyl, but that was the 00 4 cyl...Id imagine the 02+ 4cyl is alot smoother, more powerful, and is actually lighter than the 00 4cyl.

Whats insurance look like on new vs. used?

I was talkin to my parents about it because I was tossing aroudn the idea of gettin an new car or another used car and they told me insurance doesnt go down over the years, even tho my car is worth 50% of what i bought it for 4-5 years ago.

Something about, the value being lower, but more possible mechanical problems in older cars....I'm not really sure.

My insurance goes down about every 6 months with allsate, we pay in full every 6 months.. but if you break it down by month.. My insurance with liability on my malibu is less than 105-- my grandmother is the primary driver (Who i live with right now) and i am secondary..
With the same set-up, we looked up what my insurance would be on a brand new 05 Subaru Legacy 2.5i sedan, and it was going to be like 525 a month! Because i am on the policy.. On a 99 Accord LX that i looked at a few months ago, before we decided i could get something in the 10-13k range, it was going to be like 180 something a month full coverage,

Ours i think is kinda low, but we have a 1k deductable, and the reason i want a 4cyl is because Allstate considers the Solara a "Sports car" if i get a v6.. But if i get a 4 cyl, it is the same as a 4 cyl 03 camry.. so whatever..

check out my car at ebay. it gets 24-27 mpg. most of time is about 25 or 26 mpg. it is faster then v6 with intake and it runs very nice. however, if you dont know anything about cars...it might not work out for you.

Yeah, your car is nice, and its WHITE!!-- I love white solaras.. But i cant get a car with that many miles. I need something with pref. Below 30k starting out.. thats why i wanted a new car. Yeah with Allstate, if you have a 2door, v6 combo it is a Sports Car..

The Camry i have mentioned in a few posts is my grandmothers (who i live with) and it is a 99 XLE V6- and her insurance is higher b/c i am on it as well, and it is $80 a month.. I love that car.. Thats why i want a solara.
She says she would probobly never buy anything but a Toyota again, she says for her next car, prob. this summer it will be a new Solara SLE, Camry Se or a Altima 3.5Se-- She really isnt that "Granny"-- She is 60 and drives faster then i do!

I say go for it. I have a 2002 4 cyl solara and I think its pretty peppy....Its comfortable and roomy. Plus it looks good. Gas mileage isnt the greatest but its not too bad....I dont think youd be disappointed.

Yeah, i am pretty sure i want a Solara, after reading up about them.. I will def. get a 02-03 4 cyl (prob)

My friend Carrie used to have a 02 Red 4 cyl and it got awesome gas mileage... like over 500 miles on a tank..
In my malibu (it has problems) i get barely like 270 on a tank
