DIY people, how do remove your oil filters?

DIY people, how do remove your oil filters?

I ask, as this weekend i went thru an ordeal to remove my oil filter.

I ask cus till now, i've been using a no name brand cap that fitted on top of the oil filter (it was called import oilfilter cap at autozone) and a 3/8
ratchet mated with the cap.

This is the oil filter cap i was referring to:
http://www.tooltopia.com/index.asp?Page ... rodID=5625

This is my ratchet (exactly same, but made Stanley)
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/de ... 2-1448975-
7376051?v=glance&s=hi&n=553424

Usually, a little turn of the ratchet and the process seemed soo easy...until this saturday. Man, i had a horrible time getting that sucker out, I tried with with the ratchet, with my hands..but it just woun't loosen. After 3 hours of a battle, it finally loosened and i was able to get it out...but there has got to be an easier way. i'm in search for a better tool that makes life a little easy.

I wanted to see what tools do you guys use to get the oil filter out.

Edit: i only use the tool to remove the oil filter, when replacing it i hand tight it.

Since I do it myself everytime, I know I do not over torque it so it always comes right off by hand.

If you don't have a filter wrench, just hammer a screwdriver through the filter and use it as a lever. It is messy but works.

Do they make the likewise for 3inch oil filters, i've tried autozone, o' rileys, ryans' auto parts and those small non frachised auto parts stores. Yeah, i've even tried walmart auto dept..That wrench is what I originally wanted, but none i saw are made for 3inch oil filters. (keeping in mind i'm referring to 5sfe).

I use the same type of tool you use Jai, haven't ever had the same problem though.
Let's just pretend I didn't grow up, or you're going to be terribly disappointed.

this is what I have and it works every time. its spring loaded and it clamps to any size filter and it hooks to a socket wrench.
