Need help, CEL

Need help, CEL

Postby krazeee1707 » Wed Feb 16, 2005 2:29 pm

Today I started my car and it started puttering. After it was done the CEL came on. Took it to autozone and they said it was codes p0402 AND p0500. They said that it was the egr valve and the speed sensor. I know this is going to hurt my pocket but can anyone tell me where the speed sensor is and if I can check to see if a wire is loose or something? Also, how necessary is it for me to change my egr valve. Thanks in advance for the help.

I had a similar problem, my car was acting like it was going to cut off, and eventually the check engine light came on. I took it to the dealer and they ran the codes and said that it was the egr valve and something else. I did not have them perform the service and a couple of days later the CEL went off. This lasted for about 2 months or so, then the CEL came on again for the same problems. I went ahead and got the valves replaced the second time. It cost about 400, with about 250 of that for labor :(

evap system malfunction translates into:

1. You left your gas cap loose (click at least 3 times)
2. Your charcoal canister is dead
3. A hose is loose

Usually it's #1, then #3, rarely #2
1GR-FE ftw!
