jacking up all four corners

jacking up all four corners

What is the proper procedure for getting all four wheels of my car off the ground so I can work on replacing my exhaust?

I have a hydraulic jack and four jackstands.

What are the best places to lift from and put the jackstands on the rear of the car? Up front I will use the crossmembers for jackstand points but what points will safely support the weight in the rear?

I've got one of them hydrolic jacks too so what I do is put wooden blocks in front of the two front tires and set the jack point in that middle dimple of the rear crossmember to lift up both sides evenly. Be careful though, make sure your jack can handle it. Place jackstands on both sides and lower. The front for me, I coulsnt really find a good spot, but just jack it up from the front crossmember and be careful as your jack may slip. Place jackstands once up.

As long as you stick to the crossmembers for jacking points you should be fine. As for the front, I place a towel inbetween the jack and the car so its not a direct metal to smooth metal contact and will minimize the chance of slipping.

Good suggestions, I was checking out the front and back "dimple" you speak of and that looks like the perfect spot for lifting two wheels at once. As for jack stand location for the rear, I am considering putting them under the jack points indicated in the manual, but I am worried about the metal lip bending. Is this what you were talking about when you said place jack stands on both sides?

unless u are a fat @$$ like me, you shouldnt have to jack it all up, just the rear. I actually had to use them ramps i mentioned to you, and then jacked one side so i can fit under the car (keep in mind my car is lowered too). Good luck with the install man

yeah tested it out today, but no time to install. jacking up the back end only should work fine.

but its still good to know the right way to do all four incase you need to do something more involved under your car or have to rotate tires etc...
