Yesterday wasn't really a good day for toyota in general. Rizal had problem with his clutch and ran higher than his personal best. JoeB had a lil problem as well, but he got his personal best at 13.6.
JoeB will run again today, hopefully he will get his time lower.

Also, the Bullish Solara got some problem at the end as well. Afternoon, it got 6.7 in 1/4 miles, but later in the evening, it got a disappointed 10 something, hopefully it was enough for it to run again in the semifinal today.

One of the Supras there caught on fire in the middle of the track, i missed that but it caused delayed for more than one hour.

Besides all that, we had a great time, NO BEER, but the B.B.Q was great. At the pit, the Arias family were busy with Rizal's car, JoeB's car, its own turbo Eclise, a 2005 350Z convertible and Rizal's financee, the white TC.

The bikiini contest was alright, some other and I just watched it briefly. there was a blondie girl who was 6'9 tall, lol.

I'll upload some pictures up soon.

Jimmy! I didnt see you at all! I guess you were all the way in the front.

Yes, Joe won that one with a 13.67, I got a shot at the finish from that race on my imagestation - http://www.imagestation.com/album/pictu ... 2128300926

I didnt get any good race videos of Joe or Rizal, sorry about that. I got a few good ones of the Lucas Oil/Streetglow Solaras though, including the 6.75 pass if anyone wants to upload them (AVI format, 4 videos, about 8MB total)

I think Joe ran a 13.5 as his last run of the night but I missed it.

Rizal didnt blow his clutch, but it was slipping because there was too much power goin to the gears. RUnning a 14.1 consistantly with a clutch thats slipping is still pretty impressive. If he can upgrade his clutch to handle the power he has now, I think he would be well into the lower 13s.

Dave, our DSM man on the Arrieta team, missed qualifying by about .2 seconds. With his final run, the team worked hard on the Gen1 Eclipse, stripped out the seats, put the headlight back on to try to improve aerodynamics. (Intake inlet wasnt that big, so I dont think it helped the short ram much anyways), and got him running on a final pass that night. Missed qualifying for the next round by about .15 seconds that time. Probably the story of the day.

MIR was fun as always. The Arrietas fired up the grill, had some good food, everyone was awesome, Cars were fast, Our team got bigger, Thai was sober, perfect weather, all in all a good day. Had some sad stories with Rizal's clutch falling short, and Dave not qualifying, but win or lose, first or last, the comradary is what its all about,

I know most of you locals are probably back out today, so the best of luck out there.

First off I'd like to thank the entire Arrieta family and Pro Rally Co-Driver Mark Williams for their all out support this past weekend. Thank you Jon for coming down and I'm sorry you had to Saturday. Remember next time you've got a place to stay any time you're down here.

Congratulations JoeB. The new King of Camry/Solara streetcar 1/4 mile drag racing! 13.32 There is no one else that deserves that number one spot than you. After all the frustrations you had in the past in trying to beef up your motor I'm glad you chose Arrieta Motorsport to help. I look forward to many more drag meets with you bro. Red Knight and Tabasco really turned some heads this past weekend.

Unfortunately "tabasco" wasn't running to it's full potential. My very first run was what blew it. I launched it from 4k. (same way I did it to get 13.38) Got an awesome reaction time and then it happened. After 1st gear into 2nd gear my clutch started slipping. It grip at full throttle in 2nd @ 4k and then slip right to red line. 3rd gear grip at full throttle and then slip at 4k through redline. It was killing me to sit in the stands and watch as my team mates were running their cars. After an hour or so of watching I decided to do a few more passes at minimal effort just to relieve my "itch". :x

I knew "tabasco" made more power this season than last season but never thought I would blow my SPEC Stage 3 clutch that soon. I'm now looking into the SPEC Stage 5 and hope to install by the end of the week. No more slipping this race season.

I enjoyed the comradship and the great pit work this past weekend.

8) Wow, it sounds like a GREAT weekend. I'm sure the Arrieta family provided outstanding support as they always have.

Sorry to hear of your mechanical problems Rizal as I was so looking forward to you establishing a new Solara record. You'll get them for sure next time.

JoeB, how does it feel to be king? I have to ask if this new record is with or without NOS?? If in fact it's with NOS, well that's a whole different class from Rizal and I.

Again congrats to all and really wish I could have been there.

I'll be posting more later but have you ever heard of Cecil County raceway in MD. They have Drag and Tune every Friday night with Street Grudge matches on Saturday. It's just South of me and South of Elkton, MD. I'll provide more later. We could meet several times this summer if everyone can make. I have lots of room at my house..

OK, my daughter has the Cecil County Dragway schedule via the internet. She went most every Friday night last season so she knows the place well. It's a short drive from my home and inexpensive. If I still have back problems I've decided to let my daughter do the racing for me.

Needless to say she is very excited.

First and most important, like Rizal said, I owe a HUGE thanks to the Arrieta family for their support for this milestone event for me. Additionally, the presence of Mark Williams was very inspiring and came with some great conversation. When i say the Arrieta family, I mean the whole family! They cooked for us and made us feel like professional drivers. I made many changes to the setup and it was consulting with experts from Arrieta Motorsport and them taking control. They did all modifications under a tent while I played the role of the driver and talked to the many people that came to see the car, take pics and inquire about the mods. Of course I gave all credit to Arrieta Motorsport where it belongs! Additionally, it was very nice having a good turnout of SolaraGuys! That really meant a lot to me! Last but not least a thanks to Rizal (shidosha01) who is a great friend, sportsman and genuinely one of the nicest guys I know. He was sure I would beat his time and very supportive. That my friends is a first class guy!

Now for the racing! Good car plus rokie driver = struggles  . My goal was to get the Solara into the 12s and although I didn't make it, it was a GREAT time and and surprisingly I'm still very pleased with the outcome. I struggled at the beggining running as bad as a 14.9 on my first run with all kinds of issues (traction, N20 application and bad timing). The good thing was, I got better with every run. The race in that video looked much closer than it was. I ran a 13.679 vs his 16.370 but it was never about winning against anybody else for me. Although it's nice having the fastest time on the 1/4 mile database, it's all about reaching goals for me not beating anybody here. Just the opposite, I'd like to see all Solaras get faster and I'd like to help. That's why I try to help others with questions.

At the end of that night, I had the application better understood and knew what I needed to do. That still didn't make the execution perfect, I'm still a rookie. The next morning I was fresh and ready to run! Mentally prepared, my first run was an elimination run. I had to give a dial in and was late into the staging lanes. Quickly whipped out the shoe polish and slapped on a 13.5 which was my best run. I can't figure out why the time slip looks like the race was so close. I thought the car in the other lane broke or something he was so far back! I could easily have hit the brakes and not ran out. I couldn't do it though. I knew this was my fastest run yet and couldn't bring myself to get off the gas! It's all good and it's all fun! Stay tuned, we'll get 12s yet! -JoeB

Great time hanging out with my Solara buddies and racing with Rizal & JoeB. Learned a bunch but still trying to overcome the rookie, newbie, cluelessness of dragracing as not only was it my first time dragracing, it was my time time at a dragrace period. Never had a good launch or reacton time for this reason, but once it hooked up, hang on.

Am happy my times improved with each run and not too terribly disappointed at not qualifying in Turbo4 Sportsman class as I would have gotten blown away in the first round of elimination anyway. Think I'll limit myself to open sessions from now on.

Special thanks to Carlos Arrieta Jr for building and tuning my motor in time for Nopi when I thought it'd be unlikely to be finished and for building the rest of the car too.

Dinwiddle in 2 weeks anyone?
