hit and run.....kinda

i was drivin on the right side of the road doing about 40 when all of a sudden i see a silver side mirror right over my black one. i looked to my right and see a silver suv drifting halfway in my lane. I made a concious decision that between hitting a big suv or going over the curb that i would rather run over the curb.

POW i feel the car jump up on the right side and my abs kicks in...as i slow to a stop and hear the suv slam on its accelerator. i get out and start surrveying the damage. There doesnt seem to be anything really wrong with it...i didnt even pop the tire. i thought thats weired. i went back to where i thought i hit the curb and saw the it wasnt a reggular curb it kinda sloped up to a normal curbs hight. thats what saved me. I know that the alignment is off by a little bit and im going soon to get that done but is there anything else that could have happend that i should check for...as i said there is no physical damage that i can see(springs look good, rim looks normal, and oil pan isnt cracked or anything.) is there anything you guy think i should do other than be greatful that my solara's in good shape?

i think you should be fine. drive with the windows up and music off at various speeds to listen for clunks or thumps and also make sure your tire hasnt formed a bump or anything.

Happened to me a few months back.....good thing your okay, that SUV would of done some big-time damage on your solara.

Just check what was stated by Hari Bhari and get your alignment....think you should be okay since the curb was slanted......(thats also what I hit when I swerved).

sorry to hear that.... but if i were you, i would rather hit the SUV to get his/her insurance to pay.

you need to check, preferally let professional check (bodyshop or frame straight shop) all of your suspension arms and subframes. IF it is bented, you might not easy to tell but they can catch it easily by looking for the stress mark.

also check if your rims is crack or if the shock is blown.

You did the right thing. Even though it wouldn't have been your fault, your insurance would still make a statistic and could've raised your rates. I'd do what Ultraslow Solara said.

you hit the wall and damage your car -> purely your fault from incorrect judgement. insurance rate wil go up

the SUV hit you and ran away -> the Suv's fault and once they found the guy, the owner has to pay for all the expense. -> this is what insurance company expect you to do.

i know it sounds wierd but I am speaking from experience.

So true.. Say a person walks out in front.. You turn and hit the breaks and slide into a parked car.. You are at fault.

Say a person walks out in front.. You hit him, View is blocked by body parts on windshield you crash into parked car.. Not your fault..
