hey, I personally haven't changed one, but from what i've heard it is a pain in the a$$, I'm not quite sure but I think its located up front in the engine compartment either under the wind shield washer or the battery, I think u have to get to it from under the car.

The fuel filter is located under the intake. It is a pain to change and you can risk stripping the line. I did it, and changing it made the car feel alot better. Here's some more info if you do a search on it...

Jim's fuel line upgrade comes with a Bosch filter if you are planning on being S/C'ed and want to kill 2 birds with one stone.

i just changed my fuel filter, and it wasnt that bad. i had a hard time finding the wiring harnes. for my 99 se V6 it was right under the rear seat. you just pull up on the rear seat and it just pops out. under the seat is a metal plate which is just glued on, pull that plate off and there is a white wiring harnes. unplug the harness and start the engine up to relieve the pressure in the line. once that is done the fuel filter is located right next to the intake and master brake cylinder. use two wrenches to lossen the bottom fitting and then its just easy from there.

damn you're thorough! i just disconnected the batt, unscrewed the gas cap and threw a couple old rags under the filter to be removed. i was expecting a lot more to come out than actually did. getting the bottom fitting off is a bit of a chore. use a flare wrench to avoid stripping.

All I did was take off the gas cap to relieve pressure.

taking the gas cap out only relieves the pressure in the tank, there is still pressure in the lines so you have to disconnect the harnes and run the engin till the pressure in the line gets relieved, cause thats what the repair manual says, and also from experience.....correct me if im wrong

My Chilton manual says nothing about that. Oh well, I hooked up Jim's fuel kit no prob. without having to go through all that trouble.

Are you guys replacing your fuel filters because they need to be replaced or just because you are doing regular matainence? I read in my haynes manual that they needed to be replaced every 30k. My car has 69k on it and its never been replaced. I called two different toyota dealerships to price one, but they both told me you dont need to replace them unless they go bad. They said with the milage on my car it should be ok. So i guess i dont need to get a new one. What do you guys think?

Thats what i say too, Im sure replacing it isnt a bad thing, but if the one i have works fine, and doesnt need it, saves me the time of messing around with it.
