Stock grill peeling away...

All you have to do is take the grill off, strip the chrome, rough it up, and spray. Straight spray can paint.

the color will not match up perfectly no matter what you use... the best option is to get the grille painted with your factory color cuz theres soooooooooo many REDs out there... and EVEN IF you get the factory paint, your 99 paint has already began to fade, so itll be tough...also you are painting on a plastic surface versus the metal surfaces... it comes out different (comapre your quarter panel and ur bumper) you can get close but not with a perfect match...

just make sure it duznt come out orangish lol... good luck

I've seen a lot of solaras on solaraguy w/ the chrome stipped away from the grill, but i've only seen it done on silver and black solaras. Think it'll look nice on a red one? Or should i just buy a completely chrome one off of ebay? (also, how would i stip the chrome?? paint thinner?) Thanks in advance.

~Sorry for the newbiness...

so does your grill as of now look like the one on the link from ebay? if so thats just an add on chrome striipping of sorts. really cheap and it will come off. if its around the edges, just take it off sand with 250 grit sand paper and primer black and clearcoat.

hahah, i know this post has been dead for a while but i figured it'd be better than starting a new one. Well, what i wanna do is have chrome frame with red mesh, but since my chrome is jacked up, i wanna get it either redipped or painted somehow.

Well, my ? is, how much will it set me back to get it dipped? and you guys think this'll work?

Thanks.

I honestly don't think its worth re-dipping it b/c of the price your gonna prolly have to pay will be high and you could just get a new one for the price it'll end up to be.

Haven't heard or seen anyone that went through all that trouble.....everybody either painted there old ones, bought a new one and started a project with the old or just left it alone.

check out what I said back here
http://www.solaraguy.org/viewtopic.php? ... ight=grill
About stripping the grill and trying to re chrome the grill yourself. dipping is the best way out side of buying a new one!
best of luck with your project
