:evil: my 4 cyl 01 solara has 75,100 miles my CHECK ENGINE light came on :cry: .......i just came back from reno, nv...didnt drive it for 5 days... local Hamer toyota wants $80.00 just to diagnose :bad-words: , Tune-up masters want $60.00...can any body near 818 advise on good /honest/cheap mechanic?????? :robot:...thanks

umm.... just unplug the battery to reset the ECU... Unplug the battery for 2 mins then run your car for 5 minutes like your warming it up.... then drive around, if it comes back on then its probably your O2 sensor.

bring it to autozone.. they can find out the code for you.. for free..

then come home and use google and search for the code.. or go on toyotanation and search the code..

they have a whole list of codes on one of the threads...

Happen to my car all the time. If the gas cap is not tighten enough then you will get the engine light too. When it happen, i always tighten the gas cap and then disconnect/reconnect the battery cables (to reset it). If the light goes away then you are good. Otherwise take it to Autozone for a FREE diagnostic.

man, whenever my check light comes on, i disconnect the battery and it goes away...uck 80 dollars at toyota..bunch of rip-offs....

Thats right, I've seen the ODB scanner selling @ pep boys and autozone for about a 100 bux. On the package it says you can figure out what problem code there is, and grips of other stuff. It can also get rid of your Check Engine light :P

That will not fix the problem. Your supposed to be able to drive 50+ miles with out the light coming back on and then you can be sure that it is fixed.
