Annoying Steering Wheel Vibration When Idling..

When idling at a light, the steering wheel vibrates a little. You can't see it move, but when my hand is on it, you can definitely feel it. I don't believe that anything else in the car vibrates, only the steering wheel. I would have thought it would be the motor mounts if the shifter shook too, but it doesn't. Any ideas as to what this is?

Mine does this too, only when i first start up in the morning too, and I only started noticing it this winter. I drive on it for 5-10 minutes and its gone. Friend told me it was the motor mounts too. I dont think my shifter shook either.

If I remember reading somewhere, Solara was tune for a more performance feel over the camry and part of the tune up was a more responsive steering. So Im guessing becuase of a more responsive steering you feel it somehow. All the high power cars I've been in that were tune for response were able to be felt on the wheel. Not allot but noticable if touched. So this is just what Im guessing.

hey did u ever get steering vibration fixed? because im having the same problem,,but i can feel mines all over the car,,but not alot,,just a tiny bit, but enough to bother me

I've had that ever since i bought the car new; Every toyota tech (when they rode w/ me) told me that this was normal - I've noticed that the shakes dissapeared when i flushed my tranny (but then come back)...hence i'm inclined to say it could be tranny mounts more so than motor mounts?? u'll notice this at traffic lights and in cold day mornings.

I had this same problem. Weird stuff... Anyway, i had this problem kind of solved. What I did to solve the problem was with earth grounds. The GEN1 solaras have weak grounds . I ground the CAM sensor to the trans and then fed it to the negative battery post with a ground running parallel to the fender inner frame (you can use the bolt holes that were once used for the factory air-box if you have the CAI system). Doing this helped me eliminate the problem. The outcome is a more smoother idle at rest or on the go. Try this, it might help you out to.
