Question about flushing your coolant

So i was wondering if there was a way to flush your system without actually having to take out your thermostat. It such a pain in the neck to do. Could you just undo the to radiator hose after your drain your coolant and then run water through the radiator side and then run water through the other side? Then drain the water out of the engine and radiator.
