Tracer vs TRD Bodykit (polyurethane vs fiberglass)

Ok, I have ready a few posts where people are saying the fiberglass body kits are crap, etc. But, just how bad are they? I would like to hear from people who have actually tried the fiberglass kits to get their opinions of the quality.

The reason I ask is that TRD is much more expensive and I know someone locally who has the Tracer Fiberglass kit for sale. It looks just like the real TRD and is in good shape for only about $250. That's about 1/3 of the cost of the $750 I am hearing the TRD go for on here.

Thanks!

Tracer Crap kits are sold for $350 + shipping cheapest locally is $300 cash out the door

fiberglass cracks and its not Direct bolt on and you have to paint them still and you also have to modify them to fit thats more $$$$$

there are a few here that have or had it and upgraded to the REAL TRD kit....

Here's a list....

1.) Fiberglass doesn't flex like the urethane...so the paint will crack.
2.) If you hit, scrape, or bottom out hard enough....the kit will break.
3) The center rear valance is not included in the fiberglass kit.
4.) There are holes of some sort on the sideskirts that are recognizable.

.......you know how the saying goes "You get what you pay for"

Also in the long run your gonna pay about the same price as a REAL TRD kit

Kit $300-$350 not shipped shipping is about $80-$120 Paint is $250-350 + install another $100-200

grand total $730-1020 painted and installed

No offense, but if you read my post, I said I can get the kit for $250 locally (no shipping) from a private party. I do realize that it will cost to paint, etc. I can install it myself though.

And again, I want to hear from people who have HAD A FIBERGLASS KIT before... I've already heard all this stuff from people who haven't had it... but in my opinion, I don't think you can bash something so bad if you have never tried it.

Thanks.

Jbright,

From my experience using the real TRD kit (polyurethane), i would suggest you save more to go for the real one. I've not used the Tracer one, but it might not worth it in the long run.

I used to have my car lowered with the TRD kit, and the front entrance of my sis's house was so odd that everytime i drove up, the front kits were sratched. However, that was it, it didn't break off or fall out at all.

Consider you have a Tracer kit made by fiberglass, something like that will break it easily. and what the point is your front lip is broken? You have to fix it or take all other skit out.

Btw, if you don't or not planning to lower you car, don't often go through lot of speed bumps, then by all mean go for the Tracer kit. The installation might be a problem for you, but there is a will, there is a way.

One more thing, we're been here long enough to know which mod works best for the solara. Other just gave you some suggestion, not neccessary bashing the Tracer kit.

Good luck with your quest.
Peace.

I realize that you all have been around long enough to know, and I respect your opinions. That is why I am asking. I just want to hear from someone who has had a fiberglass kit firsthand. I definitely would agree that the TRD is the superior kit, but my funds are limited. So basically for me, as of right now, its like either tracer or no kit at all. So, that is my dilema.

You all know how much sweeter a Solara looks with a kit, so I am just trying to get different takes on the fiberglass kits to determine whether it is an ok tradeoff (cost for cheaper materials).

And BTW, I don't plan on lowering my car.

Jimmy (Geminimouse) is the only one I know who has had both.

Hes got a fiberglass Octane/R34 kit, and a lip kit, I think he got em used, part from the real Molly Designs TRD kit and part from a fiberglass replica kit. He switches up from time to time.

If your funds are limited and youre not planning to lower your car then go with the fiberglass. If youre gonna lower your car and want to spend a lil more for peice of mind then go with trd.

Mine is an 02 so the fiberglass front valances doesnt fit to well , but for yours it might fit well. As for the sides and rear theyre a little off, but not too bad. I suggest if its local you test fit it before purchasing it.

If i had a chance to do it over again, I would of just have saved up for the trd poly.

Hmmmm..Looks like a small war in here..Let me help you..I had a fiber glass kit before :)..Not on the solara but on another car that wasnt even drop yet..First of all it was a celica so its a toyota :)....Second it wasnt even drop yet and it still crack when my friend and I was stupid enough to go normal on a speedbump..Then not to mention they dont come with the correct screw holes..Talk about screwing it to the body frame ahaha Custom work... So dont get it unless you have more moeny to play fake...Just like in the real world...A smart guy would put 93 octane on his turbo and save money, while the idiot who thinks putting 86 will save money only to find out he is spending more to live it..

Ok maybe my proficy isnt that all great. :drinking:

OK OK OK how about this

A smart guy will spend the extra money to know the girl he is dating first before hitting the beds while a dumb guy doesnt spend and went straight to the bed only to find out his girl was a MAN!! AAHAHAHA

Ok I give up... You get my point ahaha
