Superchager Hit AC Tube and dented it and made a hole

Postby SC V6 » Tue May 17, 2005 1:58 pm

So today I thought I would re-charge my AC so I can have cold air again since the season for AC is right around the corner.. so I got a recharger can and tried to refill it, but soon realized that the SC had hit the bigger tube by the fire wall w\ the low pressure fitting on it.. it made a hole and now needs to be replaced..

HAS ANYONE DONE THIS??? Because I can get the tube pretty easy but im wondering if I need to take thing apart inside the car to get the tube in correctly.. Any help w\ diagrams and anything would be great

anyone else get this problem?

Yeah.. the tube itself is only $46 but I think the install will be a bit*h cause I think the inside of the car has to have the blower motor and a few other things dropped out to get to the tube... not completly positive tho.. seems like its going to be a pain

Scott, this is a normal problem. In the addendum to the sc installation instructions, they say the ac line may need to be bent to avoid that happening. I had my sc installed at the dealership and they didn't bend it. About 4 months later, I noticed I had no AC. Unfortunately, I moved and the new dealer would not cover it under warranty and the old dealer never came through. It was like $400 for them to replace and recharge the system. Urethane dogbone bushings should take care of that problem without having to bend the line. -JoeB

I just ordered the tube itself... looks like it should be simple to replace.. since it doens't need any work done inside the car... Im going to replace the tube and just try to move it a bit so it doesn't cause problems...

The tube was $53 w\ tax

got the tube today.. and replaced the tube.. was very easy... Needed a 24mm and 27mm open ended wrench to do it but I got it done... The whole thing took probably 30min w\ recharging the AC also.. fairly simple

yeah, i had to do that, too. i bend my tube a little bit though, and put a foam tubing around it to ensure that it woudn't ever happen again.

that alright... It was a simple install anyway...

I zip tied the tube further away so it might not happen... I think the only reason it happened tho was wheel hop... and I think thats not a real problem anymore.. but I love the AC thats for sure

Well, now i have the same exact problem.

Any chance that it would be covered by the dealer for the 5yr/60k mile?

Also, Scott can you PM me or post the site where you ordered the tube. Any help with the install would be great.

Did you just use a regular recharge kit. I bought a R134a kit, but i don't think the quick connect will fit on the low pressure line because the pulley is in the way.

Thanks in advance

The question is, who installed the supercharger? If done correctly, that ac tube should be bent to avoid that problem. The instructions for it are in an addendum to the sc installation. If the dealer did it, you should be able to take it back to them and have them correct it for free no matter how long it's been because they didn't do the installation propperly. If you did it, you are out of luck. If I still lived in Atlanta, you can bet I would have had the dealer fix mine for free. -JoeB

I had the dealer do it, and they're still around.

I'm calling the service rep in a few minutes, I'll let you know how that goes
