Factory Spoiler Rattles to Woofers

Any of you Solara owners have this problem?

Basically the fatory spoiler rattles to the low frequencies of the subwoofer.

Any suggestion???.................The obvious would be to tighten it but

wouldn't it just rattle out again. How do it tighten it? if i wanted to.

remove the insulation on the inside of the trunk hatch. There are 11 or so clips. REMOVE IT CAREFULLY! Then tighten the bolts.

It's a common problem from 99-01... it was fixed for 02-3 =]

After torquing down the fasteners, you minuse as well apply the Dynamatt to the deck lid to isolate the vibes.

I'd say get some dyna-mat insulation....should take care of your rattles......also check the spoiler to see if the bolts are lose.

AS a sidenote, it sorta happens on my 02, so I can't vouch for it being fully "fixed". I just, y'know, ignored it... not going to worry until I get my "drool over me!" system and can replace my "bass on a budget".

I didn't have much of a problem of the bolts coming loose but more of the wing itself rattling. So I went a little extreme but I removed the wing, drilled a few holes from the under side and filled it with several tubes of silicone. Wing never rattled again...It did add a lot of weight to the trunk though, if I would do it again I would use expandable foam. At the time I was scared it would expand to much and leave bumps.

My uncle and I took mine off and used 3M double sided tape. We put some around the bolt holes too so they wouldn't leak. Mine doesn't rattle anymore at all. Now if I can get that damn rattling inside my bumper to go away!!

if you dont want to spring for that expensive as hell dynamat stuff there are a couple options

try raamat. cheaper but still pricey

or

go to home depot and find a roll of "tar like" tape used under roofing shingles. will have a mild odor for a couiple weeks but goes away. you wont notice it on the outside of your car

i did my whole card w/ this stuff for a fraction of the cost of the "brand name" tar paper w/ alum backing.\

for optimum result use some foam used under carpets over the deadener

Be like me..Tooked the tail out and applied foam stripes under the tail. (House silicone works too)...Putted it back on and when I base no rattle because it absorb it all. Also its tight so no room for ratte to happen.

Dudes...I had the SAME problem. All I did was exactly what redkysolarase did...

Just remove the spoiler (not very hard to figure out how as I remember) and just put some double-sided tape (the kind that is kind of spongy) where the spoiler touches the trunk.

Make sure you dont get the kind of tape thats really think...just about 1/2" wide.

After that, just tighten the spoiler back up, and I guarantee no noise. The only rattling you might here now would be from the license plate.

I fixed the licence plate problem in my old Corolla. Take off the licence plate and put dynamat, raamat, carpet backing, whatever the ffck deadens the noise, on the back of the licence plate. Then put a sponge in the middle of the licence plate. (works great and never left any rust from rain, won't if you tighten the bolts enough) Last, drill 2 holes to put 2 new screws in for the licence plate instead of the normal 2. Make sure the plates screwed in AS TIGHT AS POSSIBLE! If you STILL hear rattling, then yur screwed!

JAYDEE23, how much did it cost using that roofing tape throughout your car instead of Dynamat? Do you know what the exact name of the tape is? I work @ Lowes, I can get that stuff cheap! Sounds good to me! Dynamat still works the best, I assume. It was all over my little 88 Corolla. About $200 worth!!!
