Brake Pads

Brake Pads

Postby Solorange » Thu May 26, 2005 7:53 pm

My brake pads in the rear are squeaking bad. I checked them out and the look like the need replacement. The front have about 50% of their life left. I dont know if this topic should go in the aftermarket upgrades forum or if this is the right section. I guess it could go either way. I was wondering what pads you guys recommend. I was looking at brembos. I know ceramic is the big thing right now but im trying to save up for struts so i think im going to stick with the stock rotors. So my quesiton is what brand of pads should i get that will work with the stock rotors, have a life span that is close to the stock pads and pads the stop well? Thanks ahead for your inputs.

I'm runnig the Akebono ceramic pads. They are reasonly priced. I had these rear pads for 2 years with no noticeable problems IMO... You can find them at the Tire Rack. :P

Can you use ceramic pads on the stock rotors? I was told by my friend you have to have ceramic rotors to have ceramic pads.

And mole sorry about that, I didn't really know if this was stock talk or aftermarket. Just trying to figure out what pads to get.

Is there anybody else that can give me more input. I would like to get pads soon.

Brembo doesnt make pads do they?

Anyways,
Toyota OEM
Hawk HPS
EBC Green Stuff
Axxis Metal Master

These pretty much cover most of the pads people here use or recommend.

Akebono ceramic pads = toyota OEM

ceramic rotors ?

just upgrade ur brake lines and stick with OEM pads and brembo rotors will do good enough for daily stopping...

Yeah brembo does make brake pads. At coximports.com they sell them for 45 bucks and they fit solaras, camry, avalons, you know all the cars in the same family.

I just switched to Satisfied Pro Ceramics, and they are doing fine. My EBC green stuff pads let me down the other day when the outboard drivers side pad de-laminated as I was slowing down to pull into my driveway...

I had those, and I was not "satisified"

WAY too much dust, and not enough stopping power for the amount of dust it choked out. Plus they didnt last too long for me, and squealed from time to time. (then again, every set Ive tried had has squealed from time to time other than OEM)

So pretty much what all of you are saying is just stick with oem unless if i make some major changes to the whole stopping system. I got it, thanks for the info!
