shake at 70mph only sometimes? cause?

my newly purchased 2000 v6 solara auto trans has a shake at the steering wheel and passengers seat also at about 70mph

but only sometimes. other times its as smooth as a baby's behind but more often has the vibration

any ideas what it could be

the solara only has 60k on it?

Hey Bro,

SOmetime these thing happen due to the lugs being loose on the wheels.

#2, It could be a thrown out belt in the tires (from some kind of pot hole damage- usually visable by a bulge on the side walls).

#3, If your running after-market wheels. This regards the wheels not being hub-centric to your wheel hub.

All these generates vibration at the steering wheel. Have these checked out. Good Luck Bro.

I almost forgot, worped rotor also cause this symthem of wheel vibration.

Just a suggestion, If you end up with new rims, make sure there Hub-centric. If they have some play while your driving at high speeds, it will be time to invest in some Hub-rings to get rid of those annoying steering wheel vibs. Fun,fun, fun.

brakes are super smooth. dont think it is a rotor. still need to check the lugs. getting to it soon

happened to me to but after am wheels...

i needed them to be rebalanced...

in this case perhaps you need an alignment...

70????? Just means a few things...

1)Some tires cant handle high speed at all. Specially tires like the factory specs. Its not wide like aftermarket ones Im not saying with all tires, but most tires of our factory size can only handle so much. My pervious tires on my stock rim could only handle 90MPH speed. Anything after that it shakes. Now I have 7.5 inch wide tires on my aftermarket rims and it
handles better at high speed. Just means your tires arnt good for that speed.

2) Over time the wear on the tires grow. If your cars tires isnt rotated as recommended, over time each tire will wear at a different rate because of where it is located. This cause unbalance on the car which cause vibration. This also leads to you need to get your tires balance too.

3)Road plays a role too. Sometime when I drive down a road, it looks smooth, but its actually not even. A small crack in the road makes a difference on how the car vibrates. Same on the highway..

If it were me, I would say the first thing i would look at was the balance of the wheels...Sometimes it is more obvious to feel shakyness when you are on a really smooth road than when you are on a bumpy road...

Next time you have your wheels rotated, just make sure they balance them at the same time. Should cost you no more than 30 bucks.

If you just bought your car, check the treads and see if they need to be rotated anyways...hope that helps.

i get the same thing on my 19s had them balanced reacently but still get the vibration from time to time : causes balance, tire pressure, Road Condition most likely
