Rear Drums

Rear Drums

Postby RichD978 » Tue May 31, 2005 10:01 am

I was helping Sam (SolDoubt) put on his trd kit yesterday and we couldn't get the rear wheels off to do the sideskirts, he tried kicking the wheels and it still wouldn't come off. Anyone have the same problem or know what needs to be done?

And yea... we did take the lugnuts off

Thats a new one for me too?? There is nothing holding it besides teh lugs actually. When car's on jackstands keep it in Neutral and e-brake disengaged (or a/t - in n and same) and try rotating the rear wheels to see if they move and hopefully come off? Don't know what other thing to suggest

lolz the wheels just kept spinning, would they be able to get it off if he went to a tire shop and asked to have his tires rotated?

I had the same prob with mine, and I have rear drums. I tried WD40, crowbar, everything.

I took it to a shop, told them I couldnt get my wheels off to switch off for summer tires. They threw it on the lift, took the lugs off, and mule kicked it a few times, and they finally popped off. Told them to antiseize the hub so it doesnt happen again. I dont feel bad, because you really cant kick it like that on a jack anyways. They just charged me 10 bucks for the rear wheels.

So lift + mule kick is your answer.

Just kick the crap outta the tire, it's just rusted on there from not being taken off in a long time. So glad I have discs! Can't stand drums!

If you look at the face of the drum, you'll see two threaded holes. You screw two bolts into these holes (8 x 1.25mm, I think), and they will "press" the drum off. This is the proper way. If you have to beat on a drum, use a rubber mallet at least.
